The Tigers<\/strong> won double-digit games for the first time since 1938 in what was a very successful season in 2014. They tied for the AAC title and beat a pretty good BYU team in the Miami Beach Bowl — it was a thriller in double overtime.<\/p>\n Head Coach: \u00a0Justin Fuente<\/strong> Matching that performance in 2015 is going to be a pretty tough task with\u00a0only half of their starters returning from a year ago. However, the schedule is manageable if they can be solid on both sides of the ball once again. Coach Justin Fuente has brought order to the program and \u00a0is a name on the rise. \u00a0If he can repeat the Tigers’ success he might be primed to take on a Power 5 job in the future.<\/p>\n [dfads params=’groups=63738&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]<\/p>\n This is not the best team in the AAC but they should be in the mix again. This time not as a surprise.<\/p>\n On offense, the Tigers return junior starting QB Paxton Lynch and four offensive line starters. That is a pretty good base to build a productive offense around. They will be without their leading rusher from a year ago, but with their front wall in place, they are confident they will be able to be balanced like they want to be, relying on a trio of running backs to replace Brandon Hayes.<\/p>\n Even though the defense will be missing its\u00a0top playmaker from a year ago, Tank Jakes, it will still be tough against the run and in the red zone. Those have become staples of Fuente\u2019s team.<\/p>\n [dfads params=’groups=66501&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]<\/p>\n The way you beat the Tigers is through the air. \u00a0It was the weak link of their defense a year ago, and this year they’ll be without their top sack artist, which will not help the secondary.<\/p>\n Lynch is an experienced pivot, but when Memphis is forced to come up with big plays (like third and long) on offense, they struggle. Even though this program is on an upswing, it isn’t\u00a0loaded with explosive athletes that can make game-changing plays on offense or defense. The Tigers\u00a0are more methodical, which hurts them against the better teams.<\/p>\n If you are going to upset the best team on the schedule, like an Ole Miss, you need to have some quick strike ability.<\/p>\n There are only a few gimmes on the schedule, so repeating last year’s success will be difficult. They do avoid one of the stronger teams in the league in UCF, but the non-conference part of the schedule could be tough.<\/p>\n This team absolutely has to win at Kansas in Game 2 of the season. If it\u00a0doesn’t, talk will start and that is never good.
