Indiana fell short to Maryland in the Big Ten tournament, but received an at large bid with their impressive 20 win season.<\/p>\n

Wichita State<\/h3>\n

The Shockers had aspirations of a much better seed than the 7 they received. With an exit in the semi-finals of the MVC tournament, the Shockers lack of schedule did them no favors with the tournament committee. That being said, a second round matchup with the Hoosiers provides Wichita State with a chance to show the country they are much better than the seeding they got.<\/p>\n

The Shockers had won 9 straight games prior to their loss against Illinois State. Beating just 1 ranked opponent on the season, the Shockers have yet to prove they are a top tier team in the NCAA.<\/p>\n

Wichita is led by Junior G Ron Baker. Baker is averaging 15.0 points a game, but showed some struggles down the stretch of the season. Baker also averaged 4.5 rebounds per game.<\/p>\n

Also leading the charge for the Shockers was Junior G Fred VanVleet. The 6-0 guard averaged 12.7 points a game to go along with 5.3 assists. VanVleet scored 19 points in the losing effort against Illinois State last time out for Wichita.<\/p>\n

Wichita will need contributions from both Baker and VanVleet along with leader Darius Carter in order to hold off the Hoosiers in this matchup.<\/p>\n

Indiana<\/h3>\n

Indiana really failed to gain any sort of consistency throughout the final month or so of the season. Losing 5 of their last 7, Indiana finished middle of the pack in the Big 10. They did grab a win against a weak Northwestern team in the Big 10 tournament, but could not get passed red hot Maryland.<\/p>\n

Indiana’s at large bid was thanks in large part to their wins over 4 ranked opponents. Indiana has not won back-to-back games since January 18th and 22nd.<\/p>\n

For the Hoosiers to pull off the 2nd round upset, they’ll need Junior G Yogi Ferrell to lead the way. Ferrell is scoring 16.1 points a game and is coming off an 18 point performance against Maryland.<\/p>\n

Along with Ferrell, the Hoosiers will need Freshman G James Blackmon Jr. to have a big game. Blackmon Jr. averaged 15.8 points a game, but only scored 6 in the loss to Maryland.<\/p>\n

Troy Williams will have the tough task of guarding Darius Carter down low. Whoever can win the battle down low will give their team a serious edge Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n
