Virginia Tech<\/h3>\n

The Hokies are in a somewhat uncharacteristic position as they came into the season outside the rankings.<\/p>\n

Last week they beat William & Mary and even though they didn\u2019t give up a touchdown it was hardly the kind of performance that makes you think they are going to waltz into the Horseshoe and take down the Buckeyes.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s team is flying below the radar and for good reason. Their offense is totally unproven and their defensive prowess is by reputation.<\/p>\n

The truth is I like their chances, which only got better thanks to the injury to Braxton Miller.<\/p>\n

Former Red Raider QB Michael Brewer looked sharp in the opener, something Logan Thomas never really did. With Miller out the job of the defense got a whole lot easier and the Hokies will commit to running the ball to have some balance.<\/p>\n

That -11 seems way to generous given that the Buckeyes lost one of the best playmakers in the country.<\/p>\n

Ohio State<\/h3>\n

The Buckeyes gutted their way to a win and cover against Navy last week.<\/p>\n

I know Middies are one of the top running teams in America but if OSU is supposed to have the best defensive line around shouldn\u2019t they have been able to hold them under 300 yards – they are probably happy to see a team with a more conventional attack to contend with this week.<\/p>\n

At least freshman quarterback J.T. Barrett got his feet wet, throwing his first TD and interception while leading the team in rushing.<\/p>\n

If the Buckeyes are still a legitimate playoff contender, even without Miller, then they should win this one easily.<\/p>\n

They haven\u2019t lost a home game under Urban Meyer but the spread numbers are nothing special since he came to Columbus.<\/p>\n

The only way I see them covinering this one is if the defense holds the Hokies to less than a touchdown. That is just too much to expect of this team against quality competition.<\/p>\n
