Washington kicked off their series opener in New York with an easy win, 7-1.<\/p>\n
Doug Fister was superb, again and they have a power explosion with 4 homers from 4 different players. Among them was lightning rod Bruce Harper who they need to get on track but also how about Ian Desmond getting his 20th, for the third season in a row.<\/p>\n
His average may be down this year but he is on pace to eclipse career highs in homers and RBIs.<\/p>\n

Washington has opened up a nice cushion but now is the time to push the Braves right out of the playoffs a sweep of the Mets.<\/p>\n
There is no doubt that Jordan Zimmerman was the ace if the Nats staff last season. This year he has certainly been effective but not nearly as dominant. He does not have the stuff of some of his rotation mates but he is probably the best for consistency.<\/p>\n
With the Nats picking it up in the second half and creating some breathing room he has been playing his part, including being good enough to win last week against New York. – he got an ND.<\/p>\n
New York<\/strong><\/h3>\n
The Mets may not have a chance at the playoffs but they are not giving up down the stretch.

\nThanks to a pitching staff that is deeper than expected they are hanging in there and they are not all that far behind the slumping Braves. This club is still offensively challenged as evidence by last night when they only pushed across one run.<\/p>\nBasically only three people in this lineup hit – Lucas Duda, Daniel Murphy and David Wright. Everyone else is hitting below .250 and only Curtis Granderson is a threat to go long. This team is hard to get behind because their offense is so inconsistent.<\/p>\n
What Bartolo Colon did with Oakland last season was off the charts so the Mets cannot be too disappointed with his performance so far.<\/p>\n
He has not been much better than a .500 pitcher but he has been a steadying force for the Mets who have seen development of the young pitchers on the staff.<\/p>\n
Every once in a while he can still deliver a performance that makes you scratch your head but this will be a tough spot against a first place club.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>Score prediction: \u00a0Washington 3 – New York 1<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\nI am rarely so bullish on the under but I don\u2019t see this one erupting into a barn burner tonight. Zimmerman should be able to control the Mets lineup and Colon won\u2019t give up too much either.<\/p>\n
Washington is pretty good value as they are playing good ball and the Mets are kind of a coin flip each time out.<\/p>\n
