Texans Over \/ Under Season Wins<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Houston Texans were surprisingly bad during the 2013 NFL season. Like, \u201cgoing from a potential contender-to-the bottom of the league\u201d kind of bad. <\/p>\n

Chances are, their showing in 2013 was an anomaly, but don\u2019t give them that much credit just yet. We need to see drastic improvements in 2014 to once again consider them contenders, as a two-win season is hardly emblematic of an immediate turnaround the next year.<\/p>\n

Assuming Andre Johnson is back on the field for good, and that his mind is on football and not his contract, his holdout this summer becomes a non-story. We can move past it at this juncture, but we\u2019d be remiss not to mention it altogether.<\/p>\n

You can\u2019t look at this franchise without first looking at the No. 1 pick in the draft: Jadeveon Clowney. To call him a beast would be an understatement, as his athleticism and overall intensity is going to drive this defense from the start of the year to the finish.<\/p>\n

Combine that with having J.J. Watt on the roster as well, and you\u2019ve got one of the most entertaining duos to keep your eye on leaguewide.

\nThe biggest question mark here is quarterback\u2014or at least it was entering the offseason. At this point, Ryan Fitzpatrick has been named the starter, and while he\u2019s not a sexy pickup, he will provide consistency that none of the rookies in the draft\u2014even those with higher ceilings\u2014would provide right away.<\/p>\n

Sticking with offense, health is going to be a concern for the running back position. As skilled as Arian Foster is, he\u2019s been unable to stay healthy his entire career. He\u2019s already dealing with time on the sidelines during training camp, but he should be good to go once the regular season begins.<\/p>\n

Defensively, you\u2019re looking at a strong group as a whole, but the secondary must show some improvements from last season.<\/p>\n

Over\/Under Prediction:<\/h3>\n

One thing is for certain: The Texans are going to be better than they were last season. There\u2019s no way they lost 14 games again, and if they do, a monumental shakeup could be in store for the one-time contenders.<\/p>\n

Instead, we focus on the question of whether or not they can exceed their projected win total of 7.5 in 2014. This could be one of the closes over\/unders of the entire NFL season. Houston will be improved, but it\u2019s questionable as to whether or not they\u2019ll be six games better than they were in 2013.<\/p>\n

At this point, assuming Johnson is on the roster and willing to play up to his abilities, giving the Texans eight wins isn\u2019t unrealistic. If that narrative changes, so does the prediction; for now, though, give Houston credit, as it should look like a whole new ball club in 2014.<\/p>\n
