2014-15 Football Previews – (Big 10) – Boilermakers<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Purdue had the worst season in its 126 year football career last year. The Boilermakers went 1-11 overall and 0-8 in the Big Ten Conference. Purdue was one of the worst teams the Big Ten has ever seen. <\/p>\n

Coach Darrell Hazell has a major uphill battle ahead, but he certainly can\u2019t be blamed for the team\u2019s problems at this point. The Boilermakers fans need to give him a chance to rebuild a program that Danny Hope really drove into the ground.<\/p>\n

It is important to remember that this Purdue team didn\u2019t just go 1-11 last year. They were absolutely throttled in the majority of their games. Purdue was outgained on average by 241 yards per game in Big Ten play, which shows just how badly this team was outclassed.<\/p>\n

In a span of three games in a row against Nebraska, Michigan State, and Ohio State in the middle of last season they scored a grand total of 7 points. There is a bunch of work to be done here.<\/p>\n

Team Strengths:<\/h3>\n

Honestly, it\u2019s hard to find many strengths on this roster. Danny Etling should give the team a little bit of stability at the quarterback spot this year. Etling got quality time under center as a freshman last year, and while he struggled for much of the year, he did show flashes of being a high quality starter. Look for improvement from him.<\/p>\n

The Boilermakers best and deepest group on either side of the ball is probably the wide receivers. Purdue has plenty of guys who should be reliable pass catchers this year. They return their top six receivers from last season.

\nJustin Sinz is a solid pass catching tight end, and the Boilermakers have five or six receivers who should be quality players.<\/p>\n

Team Weaknesses:<\/h3>\n

Where should I start? Purdue\u2019s group of running backs is extremely weak by Big Ten standards. Purdue averaged only 67 rushing yards per game last year despite being a team that attempted to run the ball first.<\/p>\n

They might be just a little better by default this year, but they are still going to be the worst rushing team in the league, and it probably won\u2019t be close.<\/p>\n

Purdue\u2019s offensive front is in shambles. The Boilermakers recruited a little bit better there this year, so there may be some freshmen getting playing time right away, but that usually isn\u2019t a recipe for success.<\/p>\n

Expect this line to be dominated on a consistent basis.<\/p>\n

Purdue has no leaders on the defensive side of the ball. The front four will be extremely weak against the run because they don\u2019t have any run stuffers. Purdue\u2019s linebackers are veterans, but they aren\u2019t very good.<\/p>\n

The secondary may be the best group in this really weak bunch, but this entire defense is a mess. Truthfully, you could list just about every position as a weakness for this team right now.<\/p>\n

2014-2015 Purdue Football Prediction: 2-10<\/h3>\n

I\u2019ll call for Purdue to get one more win than they had a year ago, but I think they\u2019ll go winless once again in the Big Ten. The Boilermakers are the worst team on paper in the league by a huge margin.<\/p>\n

There just isn\u2019t enough talent here.<\/p>\n

Purdue is going to have to try to win sloppy games, but I don\u2019t see that happening against any teams that are decent at all.<\/p>\n
