Baseball Handicapping Tips<\/h2>\n

The MLB season marches on. The teams have begun to show us what they have to offer, but there\u2019s still a long way to go in a season that\u2019s a marathon, not a sprint. With that said, it\u2019s these opinions we formulate that will decide whether this season will be a profitable one for us or not. <\/p>\n

Here are the power rankings entering the 15th week of the MLB schedule.<\/p>\n

1. Oakland Athletics (55-33)<\/strong><\/p>\n

A\u2019s general manager Billy Beane seems to know the team has something special going here, bringing in Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel from the Chicago Cubs to help bolster the team\u2019s starting rotation. He was willing to give away a big bargaining chip in top prospect Addison Russell, then gave another couple away to bring in lefty reliever Joe Thatcher and outfielder Tony Campana from the Arizona Diamondbacks as he preps his team for a run at the postseason.<\/p>\n

2. Los Angeles Dodgers (51-40)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yasiel Puig hit his first home run in better than a month over the weekend, and ace Clayton Kershaw just can\u2019t be scored on at the moment. Injuries are beginning to become a problem for the team again, but they\u2019ve still managed to sneak past the Giants in the N.L. West race sooner than expected.<\/p>\n

3. Milwaukee Brewers (52-37)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ryan Braun getting pulled from games due to injury is a major concern, but the team just continues to find ways to win. Carlos Gomez\u2019s bat has quieted down somewhat of late, but Jonathan Lucroy\u2019s really picked up his hitting pace, and the second base platoon of Scooter Gennett and Rickie Weeks would be putting up All Star numbers if they were one guy.<\/p>\n

4. Washington Nationals (48-39)<\/strong><\/p>\n

A beat down of the Chicago Cubs over the weekend was to be expected, but Gio Gonzalez\u2019s eight scoreless innings were a great boon to a starting rotation that continues to take care of business. Jordan Zimmermann continues to put his early season struggles behind him, while Tanner Roark has been a pleasant surprise.<\/p>\n

5. Los Angeles Angels (51-36)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Angels are tearing the cover off the baseball. Mike Trout is really coming around, while guys lower in the order like C.J. Cron have been offering up positive contributions. The big two atop the team\u2019s rotation, Jered Weaver and C.J. Wilson need to settle down, but the team\u2019s bats are covering up a lot of weaknesses right now.<\/p>\n

6. San Francisco Giants (49-39)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Getting Brandon Belt back in the lineup is a big boost, but Angel Pagan is the heart and soul of the team\u2019s offense and they can ill afford to have him out of the lineup for long, and it sounds like he will be out for a while as he deals with a back injury. Matt Cain and Ryan Vogelsong need to consistently give the team good outings if they\u2019re going to keep pace with the Dodgers.<\/p>\n

7. Detroit Tigers (48-37)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The team\u2019s starting rotation still hasn\u2019t been what it was expected to be, and that\u2019s with Rick Porcello and Anibal Sanchez offering up quality innings. Miguel Cabrera isn\u2019t getting nearly enough respect for the way he\u2019s hitting the ball, and neither is Victor Martinez, though the latter appears poised for a DL-stint.

\n8. Baltimore Orioles (48-40)<\/strong><\/p>\n

While the Blue Jays have been mired in a slump, the Orioles have been happy to step into the top spot atop the American League East. The team is hitting the ball well, as expected, though, as is usually the case, they could use some pitching help at the trade deadline.<\/p>\n

9. St. Louis Cardinals (47-42)<\/strong><\/p>\n

More bad news for the team\u2019s starting rotation as it sounds like Jaime Garcia will be out for the year. The team isn\u2019t hitting as well as we\u2019ve come to expect from them, and they aren\u2019t pitching as well as we\u2019d expect given the names they keep throwing out there, but they just continue to win. Adam Wainwright deserves serious Cy Young consideration.<\/p>\n

10. Toronto Blue Jays (47-43)<\/strong><\/p>\n

A make-or-break series in Oakland could serve to break the injury-plagued Blue Jays, though manager John Gibbons is too mellow to let that happen. The injury to Edwin Encarnacion looks to be serious, and his is a bat they desperately need in the lineup day in and day out.<\/p>\n
