Tanaka pitched his first complete game shutout and the Yankees staked him enough runs thanks to homers from Mark Teixeira and Yangervis Solarte.<\/p>\n
It looks like Teixeira might be returning to his 30 homer form and that is good news for a lineup that might be without Carlos Beltran for a while.<\/p>\n

There are a lot of very good veteran bats on this team but it has been Solarte that leads the club in average and RBIs early<\/p>\n
The Yankees are turning to Chase Whitley to make the start Thursday and that is probably not a good thing.<\/p>\n
He will be making his MLB debut tomorrow after putting up some fairly impressive numbers in AAA to start the season.<\/p>\n
Things might work out but the fact that the Yanks are even looking in his direction shows how desperate they are right now.

The Mets won two at Yankee Stadium but couldn\u2019t defend their own keep thanks to Tanaka\u2019s brilliance last night. Things should be a little bit easier in the second home game of this 4 game home and home set.<\/p>\n
This season the Mets have been luckier than good, ranking 13th in rns per game despite ranking 25 or lower in batting average, OPS and homers.<\/p>\n
That means they have been clustering their hits to maximum effect but when you look at their lineup it still does not look like very much.<\/p>\n
The Mets are also going with an unproven commodity in this one. Jacob DeGrom will also being making his MLB debut after being very good at AAA in his own right with Las Vegas, a very difficult place to pitch well.<\/p>\n
Similar to the Yankees the Mets were not expecting to have to reach down this way so deeply.<\/p>\n
DeGrom is not their best pitching prospect but he may be ready to come up and get MLB hitters out.<\/p>\n

Both of these clubs are in the top half in runs scored per game and neither of these pitchers are of the phenom variety.<\/p>\n
