The 2013 New Mexico Bowl features two teams who are making their returns to bowl games this season: the Washington State Cougars and the Colorado State Rams. <\/p>\n

The addition of head coach Mike Leach was supposed to make this team better in the long run, but following his first season in 2012, it looked like a longer project than some anticipated.<\/p>\n As it turned out, this Cougars team has been much improved since the first game of the season. It went 6-6 on the year, and it is looking to finish the season above .500.<\/p>\n It\u2019s been a decade since this team has been in a bowl game, but short-term history is more in this team\u2019s favor. Colorado State may be headed back to a bowl game, but it\u2019s certainly not because of its strength of schedule. The losses on its schedule don\u2019t come from the same caliber as WSU\u2019s opponents; that said, it did gain experience playing against the then-No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide.<\/p>\n Like the Cougars, it only took the Rams two seasons under their new head coach to make this kind of turnaround.<\/p>\n The team began the 2013 season just 2-4, but a strong finish put them at better than .500 at this point in the year.<\/p>\n Because of Colorado State\u2019s improvements, they\u2019ve been one of the better teams to place your money on ATS. Their reputation as a bad team has resulted in some massive spreads in favor of their opposition, but improvements across the board have put them in solid position to cover the spreads all year.<\/p>\n Unfortunately for Colorado State, people are catching on, and the spread isn\u2019t nearly as impressive this time around.<\/p>\n With Colorado State a 4.5-point favorite entering the game, a simple touchdown gives WSU the victory ATS.
