There isn’t any one aspect of the game that TPC Boston favors – a solid all around game and a disdain for pars will be the name of the game this week. Great putters and those who can stick it close will predictably have the advantage here.<\/p>\n
Tiger may not play this week due to injury and Adam Scott – well I am not sure he can duplicate his magic from last week. So who should we keep an eye on this week – let’s take a look.<\/p>\n
The Favorites:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Tiger Woods 13\/2<\/strong><\/p>\n
Has done well at this event in the past – a T2 (2007), solo third (2012) and a pair of T11s (2009, 2010) and is coming off a T2 last week at the crazy Barclays. Needless to say, Woods appears to be in the zone. BUT and that is a huge BUT, his back gave him some serious issues last week and could be a factor this week as well. If Woods plays, he will be in the hunt \u2013 period!<\/p>\n
Adam Scott 12\/1<\/strong><\/p>\n
He is another guy that loves this track – 8\/8 at TPC Boston with a win, a runner-up and five total top 10s including the last three years. It is impossible to overlook his form and his ability to win even when he doesn\u2019t look his best. Scott is a beast \u2013 the only thing that slows him down this week is some fatigue after last week\u2019s improbable win.<\/p>\n
Phil Mickelson 12\/1<\/strong><\/p>\n
Played well last week on the way to a T6 and does hold a win on this track in the past and had a T10 in 2011 and T4 in 2012. He has finished outside the top 25 twice in six appearances and he now has the added motivation of Player of the Year honors and the FedEx Cup to propel him. Yet another guy that loves this course and could make a run!<\/p>\n
The Contenders:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Rory McIlroy 16\/1<\/strong><\/p>\n
Defending champion in this event finished T19 last week but did some good things. He has certainly been up and down hasn\u2019t he? Time to cut out the double-bogeys Rory! We are still waiting for him to put four rounds together and it could happen on a track he loves.<\/p>\n
Matt Kuchar 28\/1<\/strong><\/p>\n
Shot a 78 in the final round of the Barclays in a tournament that was his to win \u2013 he should be motivated this week! But his demeanor should serve him well after an awful collapse. He’s 7\/9 with four top 25s and zero top 10s at TPC Boston but he has proven that he can thrive anywhere, anytime.<\/p>\n
Jason Day 28\/1<\/strong><\/p>\n
Finished a disappointing T25 last week and he still hasn\u2019t tasted victory on TOUR this year. Incredible. He has done well here in the past (just like everyone else it seems) – co-runner-up in 2010 and a share of third in 2011. Day is due for a win but may be hard pressed against a field including some scorching hot players.<\/p>\n
Jim Furyk 33\/1<\/strong><\/p>\n
Has four straight top 10s after a T6 last week at the Barclays and he has never missed a cut at TPC Boston with three top 10s and another top 15 in his last five trips. Furyk seems a lock for another top 10 \u2013 not sure about the win though. [soliloquy id=”82219″]<\/p>\n
Webb Simpson 33\/1<\/strong><\/p>\n
Yet another former winner here (2011) finished T18 last year and played well last week before fading to a T15. Simpson\u2019s game seems well suited for this track \u2013 he will be anxious to avenge a poor finish last week.<\/p>\n
Dustin Johnson 33\/1<\/p>\n
Played well here last year when he led the field in all-around but he did miss the cut last week and his head could possibly be somewhere else as the season wears down.<\/p>\n
Jason Dufner 33\/1<\/strong><\/p>\n
This will be his first starts as a Major Champion and he has done well at TPC Boston – a T2 in 2009 and a pair of T18s. This dude has ice in his veins and despite not playing last week could jump back into contention quickly.<\/p>\n
Zach Johnson 40\/1<\/strong><\/p>\n
Missed last week after attending his brother\u2019s wedding and has finished inside the top 8 in his last five starts overall. He is one of the few that hasn\u2019t done all that well at TPC Boston however \u2013 zero top 10s in five appearances.<\/p>\n
Jordan Spieth 45\/1<\/strong><\/p>\n
Love this kid – ranked third in total driving and T1 in proximity to the hole last week on his way to a T19 at the Barclays. His aggressiveness should serve him well and his obvious ability to shrug the pressure makes Spieth an intriguing 45-1.<\/p>\n
The Sleepers (50\/1 or higher):<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Luke Donald 50\/1<\/p>\n
Has really struggled overall as of late but is 5\/6 with a runner-up in 2010 and a third in 2011 at TPC Boston. But his skills are undeniable and at 50\/1 he may be worth a look.<\/p>\n
Graham DeLaet 50\/1<\/strong><\/p>\n
The Canadian statistically has been one of the better players on TOUR this year – first in total driving, first in ball-striking, sixth in total birdies and 12th in scoring average and yet he has yet to record a win. He is long overdue and could get rewarded for his statistical prowess this week.<\/p>\n
Rory Sabbatini 66\/1<\/strong><\/p>\n
Is sneaking up on people – five consecutive top 20s, including a T13 at The Barclays where he was fourth in GIR, 10th in proximity and ninth in scrambling. He is definitely trending upward and could provide the shocker Sunday<\/p>\n
The Pick:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
The pick this week is Phil Mickelson at 12\/<\/strong>1 after his scorching final round at the Barclays. This track suits his game almost to perfection to boot. Phil isn\u2019t fading into the sunset after a strong year \u2013 he is looking to finish with a flourish.<\/p>\n
My sleeper is Graham DeLaet at 50\/1<\/strong>. His stats are too good to not do well this week!<\/p>\n
