The 13th-ranked Clemson Tigers play host to the Maryland Terrapins, in what could end up being one of the more lopsided contests in all of college football this weekend. These two teams have split their last 10 meetings five games to five, but the Tigers have proven to be contenders this year, while the Terrapins are a sub-.500 team at this point. <\/p>\n

The Maryland Terrapins are in the midst of a three-game skid, in which they\u2019ve lost to North Carolina State, Boston College and Georgia Tech most recently. The first two games were tightly contested, but the Georgia Tech game saw the Terrapins fall by 20. Things aren\u2019t getting any easier for Maryland as the season comes to an end, as they have Clemson this weekend, followed by No. 10 Florida State.<\/p>\n

If the Terrapins are going to challenge the Clemson Tigers, they must score points. They\u2019re averaging less than 20 points per contest this year, as they\u2019re just 108th in points per game. They\u2019ve yet to establish a true go-to option on offense. Their passing attack is only good enough for 96th in the country, while their offense is nearing dead last at 117th. Clemson averages 42.7 points per game, which is going to make it tough for the Terrapins to keep up.<\/p>\n

The bright side in this contest is that Maryland allows just 21.7 points per game. That\u2019s good enough for 33rd in the country, which is better than what Clemson has done this season. The Terrapins are 11th in the country in total yards allowed with 301.7 per game. They are 20th in passing defense and 18th in rushing defense, both of which are better than Clemson.<\/p>\n

Clemson Tigers<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Clemson Tigers have gone 8-1 at this point in the year, and if it weren\u2019t for a 49-37 loss to the Florida State Seminoles, they would be in the hunt for a BCS title appearance. [soliloquy id=”82219″]<\/p>\n

Their strength of schedule hasn\u2019t been too impressive, but they\u2019ve exerted their dominance on lesser-quality opponents all season long, which is what they could end up doing this time around against the Maryland Terrapins.<\/p>\n

The Tigers have been a great offensive team this year, and it all starts with junior quarterback Tajh Boyd. The 6\u20191\u201d man behind center has thrown the ball for 2,680 yards and 25 touchdowns this season. He is coming off a game where he gave up three interceptions, but he was relatively efficient otherwise, completing 16 of his 23 passes for 344 yards and five touchdowns. Maryland has a good pass defense, but they\u2019ll be tested by Boyd from start to finish.<\/p>\n

Clemson\u2019s defense hasn\u2019t put up the numbers that Maryland\u2019s has, but their offense will give them a clear-cut advantage. As long as Boyd doesn\u2019t go out and play a terrible game, the Tigers should be able to come away with a big win. Their running game has been decent this year (32nd in the nation), so they\u2019ll have a balanced attack come Saturday. Clemson is rolling at this point in the year, and with their toughest opponent coming in the last week of the season (South Carolina), they should be a one-loss team by the time that final match comes around.<\/p>\n
