After a couple of rough seasons many are predicting the return of Longhorns football as we used to know it. \u00a0There has always been lots of highly touted talent and we have been told that this is the year it is fitting back together again. <\/p>\n
#12 Texas Longhorns (2-0) vs Ole Miss Rebels (2-0) Matchup<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0Preview<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n After a couple of weeks of beating up on FBS weaklings Texas will get a truer test against Ole Miss, a team they have never squared off against. \u00a0Though not an SEC threat, at least the Rebels can look Texas in the eye.<\/p>\n Texas is going with David Ash at QB and so far so good against Wyoming and New Mexico State. \u00a0He is completing a high percentage of throws and if that continues than Texas should be OK. \u00a0The real surprise is that Joe Bergeron is leading in rushing over sophomore Malcolm Brown and touted frosh Jonathan Gray. \u00a0Bergeron is a power back who has been bowling over people. \u00a0The defense is doing their thing shutting out the Aggies last weekend.<\/p>\n This week will be a better indicator of the true level of Texas. \u00a0On defense alone they should be able to cover this number. \u00a0If they can get the running game going it should be a snap but if they are forced to mix it up more they might make you and your money sweat. \u00a0Hopefully they might be fired up to take an SEC scalp for comparison down the road and keep their foot on the gas the whole game.\u00a0[soliloquy id=”82219″]<\/p>\n New coach Hugh Freeze is perfect so far but wins over Central Arkansas and UTEP are hardly impressive. \u00a0Playing in the SEC they are going to have a bunch of tough games throughout the year but hosting Texas will be a nice treat for the fans, allowing them to indulge in the night game hysteria that other campuses do. \u00a0Will there be enough emotion to conquer the Longhorns? \u00a0Probably not, but an upset is not impossible.<\/p>\n QB Bo Wallace is off to a great start. \u00a0The transfer from Arkansas State (where Freeze used to be the head coach) is completing 76% of his passes with 5 TDs over two games. \u00a0He is also the leading rusher, reminding me of Colin Kaepernick from Nevada because he is so long. \u00a0So far the Rebels are doing a great job running the ball and stopping it on defense. \u00a0If they keep that up they should be in just about every game.<\/p>\n Is this a trap game for Texas…possibly. \u00a0Is Ole Miss good enough to win…definitely. \u00a0Will that happen…not likely. \u00a0I expect a game that will be close for a while but if Texas just gets one more score than the Rebels per quarter than they should cover relatively easily.<\/p>\n
