It proved why we all crave NFL football. Sensational performances, jaw-dropping upsets and unforeseen story lines make up yet another typically fluid version of this week’s NFL Power Rankings!

Enough talk – let’s get on with Dave B’s Week 2 edition of the Rankings!

1. PATRIOTS (2) – The Pats got it done in Week 1 without a huge performance from their offense! Particularly Wes Welker. Two aspects of their Week 1 game that make them especially scary – they have a running game and the defense, yes the defense looked terrific.

2. 49ERS (4) – Their Week 1 game against Green Bay looked close on paper 30-22 but it really wasn’t as close as it seemed. This team looked like the most complete team in the NFL on Sunday and just barely missed a #1 Ranking this week.

3. RAVENS (6) – Absolute smack down of a good Bengals team on Monday night. Baltimore certainly looks like a contender and the defense didn’t miss a beat without Terrell Suggs.

4. TEXANS (5) – The defense was predictably terrific in Week 1 and Arian Foster scored twice. With Andre Johnson producing to the tune of 119 yards and a TD the Texans are poised for a big year!

5. PACKERS (3) – Lost at home to the Niners and actually looked a tad outclassed. If that defense can’t hold an average San Fran offense down a little there is some concern in Wisconsin!

6. FALCONS (11) – Matt Ryan was sensational in Week 1 passing for two TDs and running for one. Atlanta’s defense held its own but the offense looks elite – enough to ensure that the Falcons will have a very good season.

7. COWBOYS (15) – The Cowboys handily defeated the Super Bowl champions in Week 1 and are the biggest risers in the Rankings. They ran the ball, took care of Tony Romo and defended against the pass. If the O-line and the corner backs hold up the Cowboys could be this year’s surprise!

8. BEARS (8) – Did what they were supposed to do – destroy the Colts. The new addition, Brandon Marshall and Michael Bush immediately paid off – three touchdowns combined!

9. BRONCOS (12) – Are ya drinking the Broncos Kool-Aid? I am! Peyton Manning looked great in Denver’s impressive win over the Steelers – 129.2 rating!

10. LIONS (14) – They were sloppy in their opener and now travel to San Francisco for Week 2. Look for them to drop this week after a slight but undeserved rise this week.

11. STEELERS (10) – lost their opener to a very good looking Broncos team but did so without a few defensive stars. Big Ben played well, the receivers will be better and Jonathan Dwyer looked surprisingly good.

12. EAGLES (9) – may be undeserving of a top 15 spot – the Redskins could have taken this spot! If they play like this in Week 2 look for them to tumble down the Rankings! [soliloquy id=”82219″]

13. GIANTS (1) – Nothing looked good for the defending champs in the opener. From #1 to #13 with a shot!

14. SAINTS (7) – Ugh! The defense was battered by a rookie quarterback albeit that rookie was RG III. Still, the Saints have some work to do to build a little confidence in the coming weeks!

15. JETS (19) – Wow – didn’t see that Week 1 performance coming!

16. CHARGERS (21)
17. REDSKINS (25)
18.
