You have to love a team called the Governors right? \u00a0But what you can\u2019t love is that this team was just spanked by Western Kentucky – a team that is not even expected to compete in the Sun Belt this season. \u00a0 <\/p>\n
Austin Peay Governors (0-1) vs #18 Virginia Tech Hokies (1-0) Matchup<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0Preview<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Austin Peay<\/strong><\/p>\n Now they face a Virginia Tech team that has to be a little bit angry even though they won last week. \u00a0Governors…classic<\/p>\n All you have to do to find the weakness for AP is scan last week\u2019s box score. \u00a0They only completed 2 passes for a total of 11 yards against the Hilltoppers. \u00a0They were able to rush for 143 yards against WKU but I think it is safe to say they might find the running a little more challenging against Virginia Tech. \u00a0It is quite possible VT might totally shutdown AP in an epic way.<\/p>\n When an FCS team plays a FBS team there is often no number on the game. \u00a0If there was (or if one materializes) it might be among the biggest numbers we see all season long. \u00a0As a reference point the line on Austin Peay\u2019s game against WKU was 30.5. \u00a0It might sound silly but you could easily make the case for adding a could of TDs or more for this one…maybe that is lowballing it. [soliloquy id=”82219″]<\/p>\n Virginia Tech<\/strong><\/p>\n If you ask me the Hokies stole the opener against Georgia Tech. \u00a0It was a solid defensive effort but the offense was pretty ineffective both running and passing with the exception of a couple of key plays on the final drive. \u00a0They have a chance to try some things risk free this week against an overmatched FCS opponent. \u00a0If they can\u2019t find a groove they won\u2019t have the kind of season many expect out of Virginia Tech.<\/p>\n The key of course if QB Logan Thomas, who just didn\u2019t look comfortable. \u00a0Hokies fans want him to be the second coming of Cam Newton he still has to show something. \u00a0The Hokies would have certainly lost last week if not for a defensive effort that held the GT to under 200 yards on the ground (they usually crack 300). \u00a0They didn\u2019t make a ton of huge plays but they kept that triple option under control and that isn\u2019t easy.<\/p>\n These teams have never met and even though VT was not very impressive last week they should roll over Austin Peay. \u00a0The one thing to note is that the Hokies tend to stumble early in the season as opposed to late. \u00a0That said the Governors are not quite good enough to spook these turkeys.<\/p>\n
