Trade deadline day is always an interesting one, especially for a team like the Jays which is hard to read. \u00a0Mathematically they are in the hunt but will they mortgage even a hint of their bright future, especially given how injury stricken this team has been. <\/p>\n
Toronto Blue Jays vs Seattle Mariners Matchup<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0Preview<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Toronto<\/strong><\/p>\n With lots of young kids on this team they might not have the emotional letdown if the GM decides to stand pat that a veteran squad would and it is still possible this team could be in second place by the end of the week.<\/p>\n Where would the Blue Jays be without Aaron Laffe? \u00a0Who would think it would be even possible to say that? \u00a0The AAAA lefthander has made 6 starts and given Toronto a chance to win all but a couple. \u00a0Her certainly doesn\u2019t dominate but he battles hard and knows how to pitch.<\/p>\n The Jays have won 2 of his last 3 starts and he is certainly capable of holding back a weak Mariners lineup.\u00a0[dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]<\/p>\n Seattle<\/strong><\/p>\n With Ichiro dealt the main rumour surrounding Seattle right now is that they might deal a reliever or tonight\u2019s projected starter Jason Vargas – who has been much better than expected. \u00a0Seattle has been awful all season long so any deal is unlikely to have much of an effect on the rest of the season.<\/p>\n This team is a little bit lifeless as those they expected to perform and provide hope have really crashed.<\/p>\n Hard to believe but only four AL starters have more wins than Jason Vargas. \u00a0In fact Vargas has been so effective that he is third, behind only teammate Felix Hernandez and Justin Verlander, in innings in the AL.<\/p>\n After a terrible start at Arizona he has been very sharp \u00a0posting 6 straight outings in which he gave up 3 or less ERs.<\/p>\n He has probably pitched his way right out of the Pacific Northwest and it is any guess who his replacement will be.<\/p>\n
