We have arrived at the half-way part of the season \u2013 what a perfect time to take a look at the teams that have impressed throughout the first three months of the season and the teams that have fallen flat. <\/p>\n
There are some familiar names on the list \u2013 some perennial power teams at the half way point and for the first time in a long while, there are some Cinderella teams that occupy the Top 15.<\/p>\n
So, without further adieu, let\u2019s take a look at Dave B\u2019s All-Star version of the MLB Power Rankings.<\/p>\n
1. New York Yankees (2)<\/strong> \u2013 Not much argument here \u2013 the Yanks won three of four over the weekend at Fenway and have emerged as the team to beat\u2026 again. They lead their division by a whopping seven games and have been getting it done without the best closer in the game \u2013 pretty, pretty, pretty good!<\/p>\n 2. Texas Rangers (1)<\/strong> \u2013 The Rangers have gone just 5-5 in their last 10 games and don\u2019t look quite as dominant as they had early in the season. Still, with 52 wins and 29 of those at home, the Rangers are a deserving #2.<\/p>\n 3. Washington Nationals (3)<\/strong> \u2013 The Nats go into the break with a four game lead in the NL East and with the best record in the National League. Rumors have it they may shut Strasburg down \u2013 could this be their last week in the Top 3?<\/p>\n 4. Pittsburgh Pirates (11)<\/strong> \u2013 have gone 8-2 in their last 10 games and lead their division. The Pirates? 11 games over .500 at the half way mark? I must be dreaming!<\/p>\n 5. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (10)<\/strong> \u2013 The Angels have climbed to the top of the Wild Card standings and are obviously playing much better ball. With the talent on that team it is not hard to see why!<\/p>\n 6. Cincinnati Reds (6)<\/strong> \u2013 head into the break trailing Pittsburgh in the NL Central but on a three game win streak. With Votto and a solid pitching staff, bet on the Reds being Top 10 for the duration of the year.<\/p>\n 7. Los Angeles Dodgers (4)<\/strong> \u2013 The Dodgers are still barely a first place team at the break but have gone just 4-6 in their last 10. Hitting is a problem but what else is new?<\/p>\n 8. San Francisco Giants (9)<\/strong> \u2013 Have gone just 3-7 in their last 10 games. Tim Lincecum has been brutal \u2013 good thing for Matt Cain and Melky!<\/p>\n 9. Chicago White Sox (8)<\/strong> \u2013 hello Mr. Youkilis! What an addition! The Sox have gone 7-3 in their last 10 games and sit a very solid nine games over .500 at the break.<\/p>\n 10. Atlanta Braves (13)<\/strong> – swept the Phillies over the weekend and are 6-4 in their last 10 games to sit tied atop the NL Wild Card standings. They are 6-4 in their last 10 and have barely landed in the Top 10.<\/p>\n 11. New York Mets (12)<\/strong> \u2013 The Mets have matched the Braves lately and sit just \u00bd game behind them in the standings at the break. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]<\/p>\n 12. Baltimore Orioles (5)<\/strong> \u2013 The Orioles have finally hit their expected rough patch and have dropped seven of 10. Still, with the addition of Jim Thome they could continue to be a player in the AL Wild Card.<\/p>\n 13. St. Louis Cardinals (15)<\/strong> \u2013 The Cards are somehow only 2.5 games back in the NL Central and .5 games back in the Wild Card.<\/p>\n 14. Tampa Bay Rays (7)<\/strong> \u2013 The Rays are just 5-5 in their last 10 games but with starting pitching like they possess it is awfully hard to discount them.<\/p>\n 15. Cleveland Indians (14)<\/strong> \u2013 round out the top 15 knowing that Travis Hafner is on the verge of returning from the DL. The tribe looked good in their series win against a very good Angels squad to close out the first half.<\/p>\n 16. Boston Red Sox (17)<\/strong> Another MLB gambling season.
