Conference USA Final Matchup<\/a>\u00a0|\u00a0Preview<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Marshall<\/strong><\/p>\n They played an efficient game in beating Southern Miss by 11 points, shooting greater than 50% for the game – pretty good for tired legs. \u00a0The reward, a finals date with Memphis in what is essentially a home game for the top team in the conference. \u00a0If they win they will certainly have earned their ticket to the Big Dance…have they already?<\/p>\n The question is whether they have anything left to complete the task. \u00a0In the win key players DeAndre Kane, Damier Pitts and Dennis Tinnon all logged 36 minutes or more. \u00a0Hopefully they get a good night\u2019s sleep so they can challenge a Tigers team that already beat them twice this season. \u00a0One thing the Thundering Herd can hang their hat on is that the closer of the two losses was on the road – a game they actually led at halftime. \u00a0I hope they play strong because it can be ugly when teams just run out of gas. [soliloquy id=”82219″]<\/p>\n Memphis<\/strong><\/p>\n The Memphis Tigers are in a familiar spot atop the Conference USA standings and in the conference championship game. \u00a0They throttled UCF in the semifinals winning by 31 pointss, getting seemingly everyone on the roster into the game. \u00a0They should face a sterner test from the Thundering Herd, who at the very least might play with more pride than we saw from the Knights. \u00a0It was over at half time and got worse after that.<\/p>\n The Knights were missing shots left and right but Memphis was solid on defense and forced the action to the tune of 36 free throws, making 27 of them. \u00a0They got a solid game from senior forward Wesley Witherspoon who has been lost the last couple of seasons with the addition of so many heralded recruits. \u00a0It is nice to have a player with experience that can be relied upon as this teams preps for March Madness. \u00a0It lengthens them out even more.<\/p>\n
