This is the battle every college football fan has been waiting for, the one that has been talked about incessantly all week. <\/p>\n
Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa AL Seeing as there has been enough hyperbole to fill a UFC pay-per-view advertisement, let\u2019s try and boil this game down to its essence: this is a game between two very sound football teams, that will probably be won in the trenches.<\/p>\n Both teams are unbeaten. Both teams feature defenses littered with future NFL stars. Both teams have quarterbacks that will probably aim to manage the game rather than dominate it. Both teams have strong running backs and mauling front lines on both sides of the ball. It is the team that does these characteristics that little bit better that will prevail. It would not surprise me to see both teams come out and make silly errors, as the nerves will probably be surging for this huge contest.<\/p>\n Fundamentally, Alabama RB Trent Richardson is a horse. I believe he is the best RB in the nation and he not only dominates defenders right now as he smashes forward for consistent six-10 yard gains, he will surely be doing the same in the pros before long. Not only that, but the Tide has an intimidating offense line that has been able to bully around any comers to this point. The Tigers will likely be the toughest customer yet, with a very talented defensive line, but I have a feeling that the \u2019Bama O-line will continue to maul in the way that head coach Nick Saban covets. If that is the case, Richardson will be able to rip off his gainers and the home team could have a notable advantage.<\/p>\n The defensive secondaries for both sidelines are unbelievably impressive, so it will put a lot of pressure on QBs A.J. McCarron (Alabama) and Jarrett Lee\/Jordan Jefferson (LSU) not to make a careless mistake. LSU has a pretty legitimate receiver in Reuben Randle, but there may not be too many dice rolls deep downfield; it just doesn\u2019t seem like that kind of game with these two physical West division powers. [soliloquy id=”82219″]\u00a0<\/p>\n There might be some openings in the middle of the field for, say, a TE to exploit, but these teams have been crushing opponents with a lot of running game (for LSU, Spencer Ware and Michael Ford have combined for almost Richardson-esque production) and that shouldn\u2019t change this Saturday night.<\/p>\n The possibilities of this football game are positively tantalizing for your average fan. This game could easily go into overtime, it could come down to a fourth-quarter error or a huge defensive stand. Behind the guidance of Saban for Alabama and Les Miles for LSU, you have to think both of these teams are going to show up and bring their marquee performances. In terms of how every good team in the FBS has performed to this point, this match-up can essentially be viewed as the National Championship.<\/p>\n LSU is a far better football team than anyone thought at the beginning of the year and it could very possibly show up to Tuscaloosa and give the home side more than it can handle. But I think Richardson and the Alabama beef up front are just too overwhelming.
