Oregon come into this one needing a victory to keep pace with the streaking Stanford Cardinal in the Northern Division, while Washington is still just one game behind the Ducks for second. <\/p>\n
When: Saturday, 10:30 PM EST They would like to extract a little revenge on the Ducks at home, and crush Oregon’s BCS hopes along with it.<\/p>\n Things were a little closer than they would have liked a week ago for the Ducks. They didn’t pull away from the lowly Washington State Cougars until late in the third quarter, and if they have a similar performance this week, WSU’s big brother school may not be as forgiving. <\/p>\n Washington bounced back nicely a week ago against Arizona. They were previously overwhelmed by the Stanford Cardinal, which all but ended their chances at getting to the inaugural Conference Championship game for the Pac 12.<\/p>\n Washington’s first season without, now NFL quarterback Jake Locker is going better than anybody expected thus far. Barring a catastrophic third quarter in Nebraska, they could have claimed a top 15 win. They of course got drubbed by Stanford, but that’s par for the course these days for teams that have to face them.<\/p>\n Honestly this one is better on paper for the Huskies than people would like to believe. Especially if the Ducks LaMichael James still isn’t 100 percent. Something he clearly wasn’t just a week ago. <\/p>\n Then you add that to the fact that Oregon may have a bit of controversy on their hands at the quarterback position after they replaced Darren Thomas with freshman Brian Bennett a week ago, and that may put the passing game into a bit of a tailspin. <\/p>\n An area of weakness already for the Ducks offense. However, it also just so happens to be a major weakness for the Washington defense. <\/p>\n They have one of the worst five passing defenses in the country. It ranks 117th and is just flat out awful. But they could be playing the right team, at the right time.<\/p>\n Oregon’s strength on offense is running the ball. An area in which the Husky defense excels at. Not to say they will shut the Ducks down, but if they can at least slow them down, Washington might be able to make this one interesting. [soliloquy id=”82219″]<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Oregon’s defense is a pretty middling unit. Not great, but not that bad either. They key is that Washington sports such a balanced attack on the offensive side of the ball. That tends to make defenses look worse than they really are at times.<\/p>\n The Huskies are averaging just over 35 points per game, good enough for 25th overall. They will have to attain every bit of that number, and maybe a little more to pull off the upset. <\/p>\n So Oregon scores points in bunches, but with all of the backfield issues, and a defense that likely won’t be able to completely stop Washington. This one has the potential to go down to the wire.<\/p>\n Matt’s Prediction: Oregon 42 Washington 38–<\/strong><\/p>\n I’m not usually one for picking huge upsets. But, if there was ever a chance for one, this is it. This is an Oregon team that is going through injuries, controversy, and sometimes a disappearing defense, not to mention that Washington’s defense is solid at where Oregon is great.
