The Atlanta Falcons had to have a victory last week against Carolina and won by 14 despite being outgained for the contest. \u00a0They are still behind the eight ball in the divisional and conference playoff picture and need to get away from their win one, lose one pattern after six games. \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/p>\n
Atlanta Falcons vs Detroit Lions Atlanta<\/strong><\/p>\n Atlanta won last week because they played a clean game and let the Panthers beat themselves. \u00a0Against Detroit they will have to make plays to win.<\/p>\n When the Falcons run the ball it sets up everything for them. \u00a0Doing so against Detroit may be a challenge, although the overall numbers don\u2019t support Detroit\u2019s strength on the defensive line. \u00a0It looks like rookie Julio Jones is going to be out again for this one so the Falcons will have to use the methodical approach that has worked for them the past few years. \u00a0I am not buying receiver Harry Douglass as a consistent threat and neither should the Lions.<\/p>\n This is an important game for both teams but probably more so for the Falcons. \u00a0The last time they won at Detroit was in 2005 and they have struggled on the road this season. \u00a0They may be facing a deflated or an angry Lions squad so it will be important to jump on them early. \u00a0Their pass defense has been shredded all season long and that doesn\u2019t bode well for the upset. [soliloquy id=”82219″] <\/p>\n Detroit<\/strong><\/p>\n Did you really think the Detroit Lions were going to be perfect this year? \u00a0Of course not but I thought the run would last a few weeks longer, although there should be no shame in losing to a 49ers team that is pretty good and getting better. \u00a0How the Lions respond this week will be a huge indicator of their development. \u00a0Atlanta is pretty good and they are definitely in need of a win so they are going to test these cats.<\/p>\n Against San Francisco the Lions had their lowest point output of the season – 19. \u00a0They got nothing done on the ground which may be part of the reason they were eager to acquire Ronnie Brown from the Eagles. \u00a0 Last week the Lions were flat. \u00a0They converted only 2 of 15 third down opportunities and Stafford threw the ball 50 times because of the lack of a running game. \u00a0On defense they were absolutely gashed for over 200 yards.
