More so than at any other moment so far in the 2011 playoffs, the Milwaukee Brewers\u2019 resolve will be tested tonight. They faced pressure before in their cushy home park, where they\u2019re 4-1 this postseason, but the Brew Crew are 0-3 on the road. <\/p>\n
Date: <\/strong>Thursday, October 13, 2011 Milwaukee Brewers (trail series 1-2)<\/strong> If they don\u2019t turn in their first gutsy road effort of the playoffs tonight in St. Louis, they\u2019ll head home trialing 3-1 in the National League Championship Series.<\/p>\n Randy Wolf hopes to rebound from a disastrous NLDS start against Arizona in which he lasted just three innings, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits, including two homers. The brutal effort came on the heels of a poor finish to the regular season; Wolf allowed 10 earned runs in 11.2 innings over his final two starts.<\/p>\n As has been the case throughout his career, the long ball plagued Wolf against Arizona last week. Though he\u2019s 8-8 with a respectable 3.91 ERA in his career against St. Louis, Wolf has to worry about homers tonight. Albert Pujols has tagged him for three homers and 13 RBI over 42 career at-bats. Considering he\u2019s batting .452 in the playoffs and has six hits over his last two games, Wolf should be very afraid. Rafael Furcal also has two homers and 10 RBI against Wolf in 51 at-bats. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]<\/p>\n St. Louis Cardinals (lead series 2-1)<\/strong> The Cards smell blood tonight with shaky Randy Wolf taking the hill and King Albert\u2019s bat sizzling. But is the rest of the team equipped to lay a beating on Milwaukee? For one, Lance Berkman won\u2019t start tonight. He\u2019s banged up and is 3 for 32 (.094) against Wolf in his career. So someone else will have to step it up with the bat in Berkman\u2019s stead.<\/p>\n Also, St. Louis isn\u2019t exactly trotting a sure thing to the mound tonight, either. Kyle Lohse was great down the stretch and a big reason why St. Louis made the big dance but he was Wolf-like in his first start of these playoffs against the Phillies, allowing five runs and two homers in 5.1 innings.<\/p>\n The pick:<\/strong><\/p>\n Funnily enough, I don\u2019t like either pitcher\u2019s chances tonight, so I expect Game 4 of the NLCS to be one of the highest-scoring matchups of these playoffs. \u00a0Overall, I think Lohse worries me more tonight. He may be rusty after not pitching for 12 days. Also, he\u2019s 4-8 with a 4.80 ERA against Milwaukee all-time. Ryan Braun is just 2 for 10 on the road in the playoffs after hitting .315 away from home during the season and is a .310 hitter with two homers off Lohse. Look for him to lead Milwaukee to a wild win.
