If the #18 ASU Sun Devils (5-1, 3-0) can overcome the #9 Oregon Ducks (4-1, 2-0) they\u2019ve got a pretty good shot at running the table for the rest of the season. But getting by the hurry up Duck offense is no small hurdle. <\/p>\n
Sun Devils v Ducks The Sun Devils have already knocked off two ranked opponents (#21 Missouri in week 2 and #23 USC in week 4) so there\u2019s no reason to think they can\u2019t do it again, especially this week. <\/p>\n That\u2019s because Oregon will likely take the field without the star running back LaMicheal James, who dislocated his elbow playing against Cal last Thursday night. (As of this writing, OU coach Chip Kelly says James could still play on Saturday.) The Ducks won that one 43-15, but the price they paid could have serious repercussions for the for the rest of the season. <\/p>\n James is a major component of OU\u2019s success this season and had already carried the ball 95 times for 852 and 8 touchdowns. Before getting injured, James had already racked up 239 yards on 30 carries. Bad news for the Ducks, great news for the Sun Devils. <\/p>\n ASU has had no problem putting up a lot of points on both ranked and unranked opponents this season. They\u2019re averaging around 35 points a game and that includes their 17-14 loss against Illinois. <\/p>\n Junior quarterback Brock Osweiller is proving to be a strong presence for the Sun Devils both on and off the field. He\u2019s completed 142 of 213 for 1677 yards and 13 touchdowns. Look for Osweiller to target Senior wide receiver Mike Willie in this outing. Willie played great last week against Utah when he had 7 catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns. [soliloquy id=”82219″]<\/p>\n One of the biggest problems this season for the Sun Devils has been sloppy play. Against the Utes, they racked up 77 penalty yards on 10 different plays. As of week 6, they were averaging 73 yards in penalties a game. Unnecessary penalties for things like roughing the passer could cost them dearly against the more disciplined Ducks. <\/p>\n It\u2019s not too big a stretch to think that ASU could upset the Ducks, especially if James is out of the picture. The Sun Devils have looked pretty good on defense this year and if they knock off the dumb penalties, they could really slow down the vaunted OU offense. <\/p>\n And if Willie has another day like he had last week the Ducks could see their second defeat of the season. <\/p>\n For the Ducks, the key to victory is finding someone to fill James very large shoes. (Despite what Kelly says, James is not likely to play any time soon.)
