The Texas Rangers head to the Motor City in the, er, driver\u2019s seat for Game 3 of the American League Championship series. <\/p>\n
Date: <\/strong>Tuesday, October 11, 2011 Texas Rangers (lead series 2-0)<\/strong> Detroit battled Texas into extra innings in a hard-fought Game 2 but Texas\u2019 power eventually overwhelmed the Tigers.<\/p>\n No one has an answer for Nelson Cruz. He hit two homes in Game 2, including the first walk-off grand slam in postseason history; and already has three homers and six RBI in the ALCS. The scary thing is that Cruz did his damage last night as Texas\u2019 No. 7 hitter. The top and middle of the order haven\u2019t even gotten going over the first two games, as Ian Kinsler (.125), Elvis Andrus (.143, Josh Hamilton (.222) and Michael Young (.125) are struggling. It\u2019s only a matter of time before they break out.<\/p>\n The Rangers know opening the series 3-0 is a tall order but Colby Lewis is the guy they want getting the ball if they\u2019re to do it tonight. After his gem against Tampa last week in the ALDS, he\u2019s now 4-0 with a 1.67 ERA over five career playoff starts. The man is clutch.<\/p>\n Detroit Tigers (trail series 0-2)<\/strong> The Tigers have their backs to the wall in a big way entering Game 3 of the ALCS tonight. Is Doug Fister the man to keep them in this series? It\u2019s debatable. He was lights-out for Detroit down the stretch, going 8-1 with a 1.79 ERA after arriving via trade; he got lit up by the Yankees in his first ALDS start; and he shut the Yankees down to get the win in the series clincher. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]<\/p>\n So will we see the clutch Fister or the one who looked overwhelmed by the Yankees the first time he faced them?<\/p>\n The pick:<\/strong><\/p>\n I\u2019ve loved the Tigers as a World Series sleeper throughout these playoffs but I wonder if the odds are insurmountable tonight. They face a man who has been unstoppable in his postseason career in Lewis; they face a lineup with explosive power right down to the bottom of the order and whose stars haven\u2019t even gotten hot yet; and they face what is looking like the most dominant bullpen in baseball now.<\/p>\n Even if Fister keeps the ball in the park and braves the waters against Texas, will it be enough?
