They didn’t win it all last year but they made it there, so the effects of a long 2010 season could loom just as large in 2011. So far, Pittsburgh does in fact look sluggish. Big Ben Roethlisberger flopped against Baltimore in Week 1. The Steelers barely got by an awful Colts team in Week 3.

The Ravens are the only above-average offense Pittsburgh has faced so far this season and they turned the Iron Curtain into Swiss cheese. Houston’s elite offense can stretch the field on Pittsburgh’s beatable secondary and Arian Foster, returning from injury, may actually flourish against a Steeler front seven that isn’t stopping the run the way it did last season.

Pick: Texans -4

New York Giants vs Arizona Cardinals

Sunday, October 2, 4:05 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Giants -1

Even though it’s a road affair, I like the Giants’ chances in Week 4. Eli Manning was supposed to crap the bed against an aggressive Eagles defense last week; naturally, he threw four touchdown passes with no interceptions. There may not be a weaker pass “D” in the NFL than Arizona’s, so Manning should carve them up. Kevin Kolb and the Cards may move the ball on the Giants’ injury-prone defense as well, so this game shouldn’t be a blowout. I expect plenty of points and a narrow road win for the Giants.

Pick: Giants -1

Atlanta Falcons vs Seattle Seahawks

Sunday, October 2, 4:05 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Falcons -4.5

I’m glad the oddsmakers didn’t get carried away with Atlanta’s spread this week. Seattle is a tough place for even the best of teams to play, so I would’ve been nervous if the Falcons were favored by a touchdown. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

A 4.5-point spread, though, seems nice and manageable. Seattle only managed 13 points at home against a horrible Arizona defense last week, so it could struggle against an average Atlanta unit. Also, Matt Ryan is due for a monster game under center. The Seattle corners have struggled against elite wideouts; I expect Roddy White and Julio Jones to abuse them on Sunday.

Pick: Falcons -4.5

New England Patriots vs Oakland Raiders

Sunday, October 2, 4:15 p.m. ET
NFL betting favorite: Patriots -4

Do you get the weird feeling that this might be the game of the week? The Raiders’ offensive line has been outstanding so far. It’s opened up holes for the tremendously talented Darren McFadden, who looks like the best running back in football right now. It’s also protected quarterback Jason Campbell enough for him to at least play a decent caretaker role. So Oakland might move the ball on a struggling New England defense.

But, naturally, the Pats should do plenty of damage, too. The Raiders “D” impressed last week but Buffalo lit them up in Week 2. Tom Brady threw four interceptions last week. Do you really want to bet on him to have two bad weeks in a row, especially when he still posted big numbers in his “bad” game? Brady will solve Oakland and lead New England to a road win.

Pick: Patriots -4

Stick with Cappers Picks NFL articles all season long folks!
