The SMU Mustangs have been using some weak competition to straighten out their game after a disappointing opener against Texas A&M. \u00a0They come into the weekend on a three game winning streak and they have given up just 7 points over the last two games. \u00a0<\/p>\n
SMU Mustangs vs TCU Horned Frogs SMU<\/p>\n This game marks the beginning of a difficult stretch of games @TCU, home to UCF and @ Southern Miss. \u00a0\u00a0A win would be a great start, especially heading into C-USA play.<\/p>\n The last two games have been complete blowouts but when you are playing Memphis and Northwestern State that is to be expected. \u00a0Against A&M they really struggled because they couldn\u2019t run the ball. \u00a0SMU has a good passing game but if they don\u2019t threaten with the ground attack they are too easy to defend. \u00a0Since J.J. McDermott took over in the opener he has been pretty effective but he turns the ball over more than you would like to see.<\/p>\n These teams face off almost every season and the Mustangs have won just one of the last 10. \u00a0However over that stretch they are 6-4 ATS so taking SMU plus the points might not be such a square play. \u00a0TCU is not as dominant as they have been over the last 5 years but it is still going to take SMU best effort of the season to date to beat them. [soliloquy id=”82219″] <\/p>\n TCU<\/p>\n It took a while for the TCU Horned Frogs to get going last week but in the end they covered as an amazing 41.5 point favourite against Portland State. \u00a0I know it was just PSU but this was the third week in a row that the defense has given up less points than the week before. \u00a0That will be a tough trend to maintain but if they keep SMU below 13 this week they will win in a walk.<\/p>\n Running back Ed Wesley should be returning this week but the Frogs have been doing just fine without him – Waymon James and Matthew Tucker have both been averaging 5 yards a carry or better. \u00a0Unfortunately linebacker Tanner Brock will not be back this season as he is out for the year with a broken foot. \u00a0It seems like this year the offense will have to shoulder a greater amount of the load which seems to suit QB Casey Pachall just fine. \u00a0He has been superb.<\/p>\n TCU has owned SMU for the past decade. \u00a0Above I wrote about how SMU has been a fair ATS play but if you look at the game results you will see that every TCU victory save 1 has been by 10 points or more including 4 by 24 or more. \u00a0TCU is looking for one last tuneup before diving into MWC play and they should get it here unless the Frogs are looking ahead to visiting San Diego State.<\/p>\n ATS Pick: \u00a0TCU -11.5 The CappersPicks.com college football weekly predictions pages!
