<\/a>Can Michigan turn that win into a springboard for the rest of the season? Ron English and the Eastern Michigan Eagles will visit the Big House on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Eastern Michigan vs. Michigan<\/strong> Eastern Michigan has started the season 2-0, but don\u2019t get too excited if you are an Eagles fan. While it is obviously a sign of some improvement, the two victories did come against Alabama State and Howard. English was previously the defensive coordinator at Michigan, and you know he\u2019d love to come to Ann Arbor and play the Wolverines tough. Alex Gillett isn\u2019t an exceptional quarterback, but he gets the job done for the Eagles. The biggest improvement for Eastern Michigan has been in the running game. Javonti Greene is averaging 7.4 yards per carry as the team\u2019s featured runner so far this year. The Eagles defense has only allowed 16 points this year, but it will be tested in a big way this weekend. Eastern Michigan gave up 45 points against Michigan in 2009. This is a program that has been one of the worst in the nation, and the process of becoming a contender will not occur overnight.<\/p>\n The Michigan faithful seem to like Brady Hoke quite a bit in his new role as the team\u2019s head coach. Hoke is a no-nonsense type of guy, and the fact that he is a Michigan man is a big plus for him in this position.<\/p>\n Hoke realizes that the Wolverines have a lot of improvements to make if they want to be one of the best in the nation. While they did end up winning the game, it has to be a concern that the Wolverines allowed 513 yards of total offense against Notre Dame. Coming into the season, the hope was that someone would step up and produce on a consistent basis at the running back position. [soliloquy id=”82219″]<\/p>\n At this point in the season, the Wolverines are still looking for a productive tailback. Denard Robinson is one of the most exciting players in football, but Michigan is trying to do its best to help him stay healthy all year. Last week\u2019s 338 yards passing were a sign of just how dangerous Robinson can be with his arm, but he needs to cut down on the interceptions. <\/p>\n If Michigan is going to be a legitimate contender in the Big Ten, the defense must improve.<\/p>\n Eastern Michigan is still a very bad football team, and I fully expect Michigan to throttle them in this game.
