Love that twist as a way of keeping it very interesting and hopefully guaranteeing a soldout crowd for the game. (Is there anything worse than a ½ full Georgia Dome?).

Best Bet – Oregon

I am still not sure how they did it but there is a whole lot of talent in Eugene right now, especially on offense. They return their starting quarterback in Darron Thomas, and while they may have lost some players to the NFL, their most explosive performers, (running backs mostly) all return. Scoring should not be a problem for the Ducks but it will interesting to see how their stop unit performs as they are turning over more than half their starters from a year ago.

They were hoping to have dynamic cornerback/return man Cliff Ellis available but now that might not happen, which is a blow for both units. Still for now Oregon is looking pretty good and if they beat LSU in the opener – look out.

Best Value – Utah

Utah has been one of the more successful programs of the past half decade but they lost a lot of their shine after three very ugly losses last year (to TCU, Notre Dame and Boise State). They enter the PAC 12 with a returning QB among 13 starters from a year ago.

They may be new to the conference but they have a top notch coach and their offensive coordinator, Norm Chow, is very familiar with the league from time at both USC and UCLA. This team always competes hard and will not be a pushover even though they might be lighter on talent than some of their new conference mates. 13/2 is a potentially very sweet payoff.

Best Schedule – Utah

Football may be just football but there is still an adjustment to a whole new group of opponents. In Utah’s first year they get a really good schedule as they avoid both Oregon and Stanford, the top teams in the North, and play Arizona State at home. They do have to tangle with USC at the Coliseum in their conference debut but even if they lose that one (which I think they will), losses to the Trojans won’t be as damaging this season because they are not eligible to compete for the title.

They could easily finish the regular season with just the one loss.

Prediction – Stanford

I like USC to amass the best record in the South but because they are not permitted to participate in the Championship Game Utah will take their spot. I see Stanford emerging victorious against Oregon this year (at home) and that will put them in the big game as well.

How about that, a couple of very respectable schools duking it out for PAC 12 supremacy.

Lets give the nod to the Cardinal here, I like their playmakers on defense and this will be a coronation of sort for Andrew Luck’s Heisman campaign.

CappersPicks.com brings you the only college football handicapping guide you’ll need.
