Redemption time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Date: Aug. 04 &#8211; 07<br \/>\nEvent: World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational<br \/>\nCourse: Firestone CC (South Course), Akron, Ohio<br \/>\nPurse: $8,500,000<br \/>\nDefending Champ: Hunter Mahan<br \/>\nWinning Share: $1,400,000<br \/>\nFedEX Cup Points Up For Grabs: 550<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The WGC-Bridgestone Invitational isn\u2019t a major but, like most WGC events, it almost feels like one because of its phenomenal field. The group includes Mr. Eldrick \u201cTiger\u201d Woods, who will compete for the first time since May.  <figure id=\"attachment_24491\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24491\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/WGC-Bridgestone-Invitational.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"WGC-Bridgestone-Invitational\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24491\" srcset=\"https:\/\/capperspicks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/WGC-Bridgestone-Invitational.jpg 150w, https:\/\/capperspicks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/WGC-Bridgestone-Invitational-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/capperspicks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/WGC-Bridgestone-Invitational-125x125.jpg 125w, https:\/\/capperspicks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/WGC-Bridgestone-Invitational-134x134.jpg 134w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-24491\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">WGC-Bridgestone Invitational Predictions<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>He picked the right place to return; he\u2019s won seven times at this week\u2019s venue, the South Course at Firestone Country Club.<\/p>\n<p>Given Tiger\u2019s success at this tourney, it shouldn\u2019t surprise you to learn that the South Course is the longest par-70 on Tour and has the longest hole on Tour at 667 yards. <\/p>\n<p>Big hitters do well here.<\/p>\n<h3>THE CONTENDERS<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Rory McIlroy<\/strong><br \/>\nWGC-Bridgestone odds: +1200<\/p>\n<p>Rory isn\u2019t hot entering this week\u2019s tourney but that shouldn\u2019t deter you from considering him. He\u2019s been hitting greens all year, we know he has the length necessary to succeed at Firestone and he placed ninth here last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lee Westwood<\/strong><br \/>\nWGC-Bridgestone odds: +1500<\/p>\n<p>Westwood is another guy beautifully suited to the course this week. He hits the ball a long way and he keeps it in the fairway. What more could you want? Westwood\u2019s last two starts at this tourney yielded top-10s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Luke Donald<\/strong><br \/>\nWGC-Bridgestone odds: +1500<\/p>\n<p>The world\u2019s No. 1 has cooled off considerably of late, going T-45, MC, T-17 after a run of eight straight top-10s on the PGA Tour. I\u2019m not sure if this is the week for him to bounce back. His only week areas this season are driving distance (160<sup>th<\/sup>) and GIR (78<sup>th<\/sup>), arguably the two most important stats at Firestone.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tiger Woods<\/strong><br \/>\nWGC-Bridgestone odds: +1500<\/p>\n<p>What do we do with Tiger? The scouting report makes his +1500 odds justified, as we know he can bomb it and he has owned this tournament like no other golfer. However, I can\u2019t shake the feeling that this week\u2019s comeback is forced and that Tiger isn\u2019t physically or mentally ready to return yet. I don\u2019t have high hopes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Steve Stricker<\/strong><br \/>\nWGC-Bridgestone odds: +1500<\/p>\n<p>Though he has two wins in his last four outings and two straight top-10s at Firestone, Stricker\u2019s makeup is very Donald-like. Amazing putter and touch around the greens but the lack of length will limit him.<\/p>\n<h3>SOLID PICKS<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Dustin Johnson <\/strong><br \/>\nWGC-Bridgestone odds: +2000<\/p>\n<p>Dustin Johnson is just the kind of player who should flourish at Firestone. He\u2019s fresh off a second-place finish at the British Open and he has two top-25s at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. He\u2019s too good to go an entire season without a victory.  <iframe allowtransparency='true' src='http:\/\/ff.connextra.com\/Bodog\/selector\/client?client=Bodog&#038;placement=Ext_RS_Sports_250x250&#038;cxt_aff_id=151627&#038;tclk=http:\/\/www.bodog.eu\/welcome\/151627\/' class=\"alignleft\" style=\"margin: 5px; border: 5px solid #CCCCCC;\" width='250' height='250' scrolling='no' frameborder='0' style='border-width:0'><\/iframe> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Phil Mickelson<\/strong><br \/>\nWGC-Bridgestone odds: +2000<\/p>\n<p>You never know when Lefty will step up his game against elite competition; he hits the ball a long way. But Mickelson can\u2019t hit the broad side of a barn off the tee, ranking 180<sup>th<\/sup> in Tour in driving accuracy. He also missed the cut at the easy Greenbrier last week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nick Watney<\/strong><br \/>\nWGC-Bridgestone odds: +2500<\/p>\n<p>Watney has one of the better all-around games in the field this week, as he can match the accuracy and putting ability of a guy like Stricker but is also long off the tee. He won a month ago but also missed the cut at the Canadian Open. It\u2019s tough to tell which version of Watney will show up this week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bubba Watson<\/strong><br \/>\nWGC-Bridgestone odds: +4000<\/p>\n<p>Bubba is second on Tour in both driving distance and greens in regulation. If the talented southpaw is to bust out, Firestone seems like the right place for it to happen. Since winning the Zurich Classic in early May, though, he has six straight finishes of 30<sup>th<\/sup> or worse. Bubba is ice-cold.<\/p>\n<h3>THE SLEEPER<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Bo Van Pelt<\/strong><br \/>\nWGC-Bridgestone odds: +5000<\/p>\n<p>Though he\u2019s a \u201csleeper,\u201d Bo Van Pelt looks like a better play than many of the big names this week. He finished third at this tournament last year; he\u2019s seventh on Tour in total driving and ninth in greens; and he\u2019s playing well right now, with six top-15 finishes in his last seven tries.<\/p>\n<h3>THE PICK<\/h3>\n<p>I like a few different guys for the WGC-Bridgestone, like Watney, Johnson and Van Pelt. But my gut tells me it\u2019s Westwood\u2019s week. Save for his pressure-packed missed cut at the British Open, he has eight straight worldwide top-15s. His game fits the course.
