The Oklahoma Sooners kick off their drive for a national title at home to a tricky Tulsa team that quietly cracked the national top 25 last year. Both teams can put major points on the board, so Tulsa may improve on the 45-0 shellacking it took the last time it faced Oklahoma two years ago. Oklahoma\u2019s passing attack is a beast with Landry Jones at the helm but G.J. Kinne, the 2010 Conference USA Player of the Year, leads a Tulsa offense that quietly ranked sixth in the nation a year ago.<\/p>\n The difference in this matchup \u2013 and the reason the spread is justified \u2013 is defense. Oklahoma\u2019s is decent. Tulsa\u2019s is atrocious. In fact, no team in the entire FBS allowed more passing yards per game last season. This team returns 17 starters from last year\u2019s team. Even though a road game at Missouri is a tough way to start 2011, I think the Redhawks can stay inside three touchdowns.<\/p>\n Don\u2019t forget \u2013 Missouri is reeling after losing its two best players, quarterback Blaine Gabbert and linebacker Aldon Smith. The Tigers may have some growing pains. They\u2019ll probably still win at home but I\u2019m not sure they\u2019ll cover.<\/p>\n Pick: Miami (OH) +20.5<\/strong><\/p>\n Saturday, September 3, 8:00 p.m. ET Talk about a scary Week-1 game for both teams. The loser of this matchup could see its national title hopes dashed. Its players could wander the field aimlessly, crying their hearts out. This is not an easy game to call \u2013 but the national title game last season was somewhat telling. Oregon had the country\u2019s top offense last season but was kept in check against an elite Auburn team. [soliloquy id=”82219″]<\/p>\n Playing at home, perhaps LSU will keep the Ducks in check. A win could be the first crucial step toward a BCS title game berth.<\/p>\n Pick: LSU -1.5<\/strong><\/p>\n Saturday, September 3, 8:00 p.m. ET Boise State is that pipsqueak little brother who keeps telling the FBS, \u201cPick me!\u201d for the national title game. A win over a respected opponent like Georgia would help establish the Broncos early on as a national power.<\/p>\n Kellen Moore is hungry for a Heisman Trophy, the NCAA all-time wins record and a championship. While he might not dominate against an above-average Georgia defense, Boise State\u2019s offensive edge could help it win on the road.<\/p>\n I know Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray is supposed to be the next big thing. But he\u2019s still a work in progress and Boise State\u2019s defense was among the country\u2019s best a year ago.
