Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club in Vancouver doesn\u2019t play long but it has traditionally played among the toughest non-major courses on Tour. Its greens are tiny, though rain last weekend may mercifully soften them up a bit.<\/p>\n<h3>THE ELITE<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Luke Donald<\/strong><br \/>\nCanadian Open odds: +800<\/p>\n<p>I wonder if a rather obscure tourney like the Canadian Open, buried out in Western Canada, is just what the doctored ordered for the world\u2019s top-ranked player. Donald is still just two weeks removed from a win in Scotland. He\u2019s 26<sup>th<\/sup> on Tour in ball-striking and third in bogey avoidance. While he\u2019s far from hot, having missed the cut at the British, he was pretty consistent before then, making 29 straight cuts dating back to 2010 and posting top-10s in half his starts this season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rickie Fowler <\/strong><br \/>\nCanadian Open odds: +1500<\/p>\n<p>Are you willing to play a hunch that it may be the youngster\u2019s time? Fowler, 22, hasn\u2019t won on the PGA Tour yet. But his fifth-place finish at the Open last week turned plenty of heads. While his future looks bright, I don\u2019t personally like him for this week\u2019s course setup. He doesn\u2019t rate well in ball-striking, driving accuracy, bogey avoidance or greens in regulation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charl Schwartzel <\/strong><br \/>\nCanadian Open odds: +1500<\/p>\n<p>The +1500 odds are justified for the reigning Masters champ. Schwartzel hasn\u2019t missed a cut all year and has seven top-25s in 10 tries. He has the right game for this event, ranking 28<sup>th<\/sup> in ball-striking. I like him.<\/p>\n<h3>SOLID PICKS<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Ryan Moore<\/strong><br \/>\nCanadian Open odds: +2500<\/p>\n<p>As a Seattle native, Moore is more of a hometown hero than many of the Canadians at this event. The pressure didn\u2019t get to him the last time Vancouver hosted the Canadian Open in 2005; he finished second. Moore isn\u2019t a total stab in the dark.  <iframe allowtransparency='true' src='http:\/\/ff.connextra.com\/Bodog\/selector\/client?client=Bodog&#038;placement=Ext_RS_Sports_250x250&#038;cxt_aff_id=151627&#038;tclk=http:\/\/www.bodog.eu\/welcome\/151627\/' class=\"alignleft\" style=\"margin: 5px; border: 5px solid #CCCCCC;\" width='250' height='250' scrolling='no' frameborder='0' style='border-width:0'><\/iframe> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Spencer Levin<\/strong><br \/>\nCanadian Open odds: +4000<\/p>\n<p>Levin is solid ball-striker and he warrants special attention after he performed well at Pebble Beach earlier this season, as it has the same small greens and Poa grass as Shaughnessy. He\u2019s an interesting combination of solid peripheral stats and proven ability under the course conditions we\u2019ll see this week.<\/p>\n<h3>THE SLEEPER<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Brian Gay<\/strong><br \/>\nCanadian Open odds: +5000<\/p>\n<p>If you follow history, you won\u2019t like Gay as a pick this week, as he\u2019s missed the cut eight times in 10 tries in Canada. However, he\u2019s second on Tour in fairways and seventh in bogey avoidance. There\u2019s no denying that, in theory, Gay\u2019s game at least suits the course.<\/p>\n<h3>THE SUPER-SLEEPER<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Stephen Ames<\/strong><br \/>\nCanadian Open odds: +6000<\/p>\n<p>We can\u2019t cover the Canadian Open without referencing a single Canadian, right? Ames has the best odds of any hometown player this week. Other than driving accuracy, his peripheral stats are poor. He has more missed cuts than top-30 finishes this season. So he looks like a pretty bad pick. However, he did finish seventh the last time the tournament was played in Vancouver. And I can\u2019t blame you if you feel like making a sentimental pick.<\/p>\n<h3>THE PICK<\/h3>\n<p>While there\u2019s no one I absolutely love this week, a few guys stand out. Donald makes sense based on his emotional motivation. Levin\u2019s peripherals and sportsbook value are nice. <\/p>\n<p>But I like Schwartzel the best.
