Let’s bet on it.

Kershaw may be overlooked in the NL Cy Young race when all is said and done because his team won’t make the playoffs. Then again, he’s done everything in his power, winning 10 games so far, and Felix Hernandez may have broken a barrier last season by winning the AL Cy Young on a bad team.

Kershaw has been as dominant as any pitcher in the game this season, striking out 10 or more batters in a game five times. He loves the Giants historically, posting a 1.62 ERA with 60 strikeouts in 55.2 career innings against them. He shut them out the first two times he faced them this year before they touched him up his last time out.

San Francisco Giants (56-41 through July 18)
Tim Lincecum (8-7, 2.99)

The San Francisco Giants continue to hum along. Now that even their fifth starter, Ryan Vogelsong, is an All-Star, there’s no soft spot in their rotation (when Jonathan Sanchez is healthy). The defending world champs had won six of seven through Monday, allowing three earned runs or fewer in all six of those wins. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Encouraging for the Giants: their offense has shown signs of life, scoring at least five runs in half those wins. The catalyst has been Pablo “Kung Fu Panda” Sandoval, who is batting .349 with 15 RBI in 15 games this month.

Tim Lincecum gets it rough, doesn’t he? 2.99 ERA, 139 strikeouts in 129.1 innings and people are saying he shouldn’t have made the All-Star team. Gimme a break.

MLB Trends

Under is 7-2 in LA last 9 overall.
Under is 7-2 in LA last 9 on grass.
LA are 7-19 in their last 26 Wed. games.
SF are 7-1 in their last 8 overall.
SF are 7-1 in their last 8 games on grass.
Under is 25-10-1 in SF last 36 home games.
SF are 8-2 in Lincecums last 10 starts vs. LA.
Over is 6-2-2 in the last 10 meetings.

MLB Free pick:

Matt Kemp is all the Dodgers can truly rely on offensively. Since he bats just .217 with nine strikeouts over 23 career at-bats against Lincecum, that doesn’t bode well. Neither do Kershaw’s oddly mediocre road numbers this year (3-3, 4.31 ERA).

The game should be close but I expect Sandoval – who has a pair of homers in 18 at-bats versus Kershaw – to give Lincecum the limited run support he needs on Wednesday.

Dodgers vs Giants prediction: Giants 3, Dodgers 1

GRAB OUR BEST Expert MLB Picks for 2011 MLB Betting! —–>

Shea weighs in with his MLB Free Pick for Saturday.
