NFL news: Kerry Collins to retire<\/strong><\/p>\n

Quarterback Kerry Collins is calling it a career. Reportedly, the 38-year-old is retiring after 16 NFL seasons. <\/p>\n

The two-time Pro Bowler threw for 1,823 yards and 14 touchdowns in 10 games with the Tennessee Titans last season. <\/p>\n

Collins is quietly 11th<\/sup> in NFL history in passing yards with 40,441, ahead of Johnny Unitas and below Joe Montana.

DeMaurice Smith claims \u201clot of work to do\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The NFL owners and NFL players association met for 12 hours on Thursday, still trying to end the lockout and hammer out a new collective bargaining agreement. Though optimism has grown recently, the two sides are still far apart on several issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe still have a lot of work to do,\u201d NFLPA chief DeMaurice Smith said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe spent all day working hard for a deal that is fair and in keeping with what the players deserve.\u201d <\/p>\n

Reportedly, the biggest sticking point in the current negotiations is how to split the $9 billion in annual revenue.<\/p>\n

Commissioner Roger Goodell attended the latest meeting, as did owners Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys, Robert Kraft of the New England Patriots, and John Mara of the New York Giants. [soliloquy id=”82219″]<\/p>\n

On the players\u2019 side, NFLPA president Kevin Mawae was also present.<\/p>\n
