Two Western Conference Heavyweights will be looking for their first win of the season on Friday night when the BC Lions host the Calgary Stampeders in what amounts to a huge early season CFL game. <\/p>\n
CALGARY STAMPEDERS (0-1) vs. BRITISH COLUMBIA LIONS (0-1) Both teams played OK in Week 1 but were unable to put their opposition away. Going 0-2 in the West is nothing that either team envisioned!<\/p>\n The Calgary Stampeders played a decent game in Week 1 \u2013 reigning league MVP Henry Burris passed for 293 yards, Joffrey Reynolds looked good and the defense gave up just 23 points. So what happened? Calgary was a step slow in a couple aspects of the game \u2013 something that a veteran, talent-latent team will not let happen again!<\/p>\n Calgary\u2019s defense is a much different unit than the one that finished first in CFL defense last season \u2013 the loss of the entire backfield was evident in Week 1. Still, the unit gave up just over 250 yards in total offense to Toronto and gave the team a chance to win.<\/p>\n The BC Lions looked brutal in the first half of their Week 1 game and looked brilliant in the second half. It took the first half of the game for the Lions to get on track. The Lions hope to carry some of the momentum from the second half of Week 1 into their home opener on Friday night.<\/p>\n BC\u2019s offense was led by Travis Lulay who had a slow start but finished with 366 yards. Lulay looked poised in the pocket and he served notice that he is ready to be called a legitimate CFL quarterback. The one thing missing for BC was a running game \u2013 Jamel Robertson was brutal, leaving Lulay to emerge as the top rusher on the roster. [ad-4437448]<\/p>\n The Lions defense was torched in the first half of their Week 1 game allowing Anthony Calvillo to pick them apart and to build a huge first half lead, one that Montreal tied to surrender. It is not all doom and gloom for the defense however; the most talented unit in the CFL held Montreal\u2019s elite offense to just three points in the second half. <\/p>\n It is difficult to predict exactly which Lions defense will show up on Friday night.<\/p>\n CFL Betting Trends:<\/strong><\/p>\n Over is 7-0-1 in CAL last 8 road games. The Calgary Stampeders are 9-2-1 ATS in their last 12 games against BC \u2013 they absolutely own the Lions.
