Tampa Bay will look to make up\u00a0some ground in the division with a strong showing over the next four days after falling 4.5 games back of New York. It is coming off a 12-5 win over Minnesota on Wednesday afternoon as a 102 road underdog. The Rays are 48-39 overall heading into this series. They are 21-21 at home and 27-18 on the road.<\/p>\n

Run production has been spotty for Tampa Bay this season with an average of 4.17 runs per game, which is ranked eighth in the American League. The good news is that four players in the lineup have 40 or more RBI led by B.J. Upton\u2019s 45.<\/p>\n

Jeff Niemann is slated to get the start on Thursday for the Rays. He is 3-4 this season with a 5.05 ERA, but earned his third win by holding St. Louis to one earned run on nine hits in six innings of work this past Saturday. He is 2-0 lifetime against the Yankees with an ERA of 3.74. <\/p>\n

New York is 8-2 in its last 10 games heading into Wednesday\u2019s series finale with Cleveland. It has a 1.5 game lead over Boston with an overall record of 51-33, which is tops in the AL. New York skipper Joe Girardi has penciled-in Bartolo Colon as the starter for Thursday\u2019s game. He is 6-3 this season with an ERA of 2.88. In his first start since June 11, he held the Mets scoreless on five hits through six innings this past Saturday to get the win. Colon is 7-2 against the Rays with a 3.90 ERA.<\/p>\n

Head-to-head, they spit the two games they played this season in St. Petersburg, but in 2010 the Rays had a slight 10-8 edge overall and a 5-4 edge at Yankee Stadium. The total has gone \u2018over\u2019 in four of the last six meetings. Stick with the Yankees to grab the early edge in this series as they extend their home winning streak to six games behind another strong outing by Colon.<\/p>\n
