Before the Minnesota Twins dropped two straight to San Francisco, they were doing the unthinkable. <\/p>\n

Pitching, mainly. Justin Morneau remains on the DL and Joe Mauer just returned. But the likes of Scott Baker, Nick Blackburn and even Carl Pavano have gotten the job done on the mound time and time again of late. Is there a staff in the game with better collective control?<\/p>\n Hmm, well, maybe, since the Twinkies still have to count Francisco Liriano. He\u2019s been wild this season, walking 37 batters to accompany his 58 strikeouts. Liriano does seem to be heating up, however. He\u2019s allowed three earned runs or fewer in five straight starts.<\/p>\n Milwaukee Brewers (41-35 through June 23)<\/strong> Hmm. Just when the Brewers were emerging as the class of the National League Central, they hit a rough patch and lost seven of 10. The bats have more or less remained prominent, as Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder are posting their usual prolific power numbers, but the Brewers\u2019 pitching has been spotty of late. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]<\/p>\n Shaun Marcum has been the team\u2019s best pitcher by far but is batting a hip injury. Zack Greinke is striking out tons of batters but has been unlucky. And what about Yovani Gallardo, who starts Saturday against Minnesota? He was dominant in May and early June, winning six straight starts, but he\u2019s been rocked in two of his last three outings.<\/p>\n
