The New York Yankees are heating up at the right time. The Boston Red Sox are on fire and they thumped the Bronx Bombers over and over last week to gain the American League East lead, so the Yankees\u2019 6-1 run since then is well-timed. <\/p>\n

The Yanks\u2019 are still the highest-scoring team in the majors but their pitching is really making the difference of late; they\u2019ve allowed four runs or fewer in six straight games. Interestingly enough, ace C.C. Sabathia hasn\u2019t been the man really leading the charge. Boston rocked him for six runs on June 9; in his next start on June 14, he got the win over Texas but still allowed four runs.<\/p>\n

C.C. Also has a spotty history against the Cubs to overcome on Sunday night. He\u2019s 1-2 with a 5.76 ERA against them in his career. Maybe he\u2019ll get some solid run support like he did in his last start? Curtis Granderson has started up another homer binge of late. He\u2019s up to 21 long flys on the season, tying him with Mark Teixeira for the team (and major-league) lead.<\/p>\n

Chicago Cubs (28-40 through June 16)<\/strong>
\nRandy Wells (1-1, 5.62)<\/p>\n

The Chicago Cubs can take solace in winning three of four against the Milwaukee Brewers this week but it\u2019s a small victory in what is rapidly becoming a lost season. The Cubbies\u2019 pitching is sinking them. Their 4.78 team ERA, 1.48 team WHIP and 24 quality starts as a team are dead last in the majors. Randy Wells gets the ball for Sunday Night Baseball <\/em>and is one of many Chicago starters looking like a shadow of his former self this season. He hasn\u2019t been as bad at Wrigley Field as he has on the road but he certainly hasn\u2019t been good. Wells has one win in five tries this season.<\/p>\n
