He and his team’s second-ranked rush attack plan on starting things out right on their turf.

Sun, Sept. 18 @ New York Jets David Garrard has not been the answer at quarterback for the Jaguars. His replacement, current incumbent Trent Edwards, had a whale of a time against the Jets back when he was Buffalo’s starting pivot. Unless history changes quickly, perhaps first-round rookie Blaine Gabbert is the answer.

Sun, Sept. 25 @ Carolina Panthers DE Charles Johnson is deceptively good, but if the Jags can keep him off whoever is playing QB, they stand a very good chance of beating this rebuilding team.

Sun, Oct. 2 NEW ORLEANS The Saints must leave the comfy, air-conditioned Super Dome for some Floridian football. The Deep South heat and humidity will likely be more oppressive than whatever the Jaguars’ front four can generate on elite QB Drew Brees.

Sun, Oct. 9 CINCINNATI Are the Bengals sticking it out with a grumpy Carson Palmer? Cincy is beatable with Palmer at the helm and must be more so without him.

Sun, Oct. 16 @ Pittsburgh This match-up has yielded some entertaining games over the years; it is the clash of similar styles. The difference, though, is Pittsburgh’s defense – and blitzing in particular – is in a different league than Jacksonville’s.

Mon, Oct. 24 BALTIMORE It’s nice to have Jacksonville – a team you’d easily hear in a “should we move a team to L.A.” discussion – broadcasted nationwide on Monday night. The Jags won’t want to take a hiding from a talented Ravens squad in front of such a big audience.

Sun, Oct. 30 @ Houston Houston, we have a problem. We have no idea whether fans and bettors are going to see a division front-runner or an Arena League team from week to week.

Sun, Nov. 6 BYE

Sun, Nov. 13 @ Indianapolis The Jags join the likes of the Patriots and the Chargers as a team that always seems to play Indy tough. Jacksonville’s run first, do-everything-else-later philosophy works because the Colts don’t have the bulk to stuff the run game for a full 60 minutes.

Sun, Nov. 20 @ Cleveland “Jax” has an emerging receiving weapon in the diminutive Mike Thomas, it would be smart to utilize him in what will otherwise likely predominately be a test of running games.

Sun, Nov. 27 HOUSTON This time the Texans travel to EverBank Field (is it just me or does it seem this stadium changes its name every two weeks?) with the advantage of a more balanced attack than the Jaguars. The Jags used to have a reputation for a stout defense and that must happen again if the team wishes to improve beyond .500 football.

Mon, Dec. 5 SAN DIEGO Another edition of MNF in northern Florida? Hold us back, NFL schedule gods! With Philip Rivers and his bevy of threats coming to town, the 28th-ranked Jags pass “D” is forced to wake up.

Sun, Dec. 11 TAMPA BAY If the QB match-up is Josh Freeman vs. Gabbert (assuming Gabbert has wrested the starting job by this point) it will be a battle of pivots who are too young to remember Saved by the Bell. I’ll bet you A.C. Slater could make a couple tackles out there for the Jags.

Thurs, Dec. 15 @ Atlanta A road game on short rest in the hostile confines of a raucous dome, which inhabits one of the better teams in the NFL. This has the makings of a miserable one for Jacksonville.

Sat, Dec. 24 @ Tennessee If Indy can’t stay healthy and Houston QB Matt Schaub continues to get balder, it’s possible this game could have some divisional implications.

Sun, Jan. 1 INDIANAPOLIS In past years, the Colts would be resting starters for the playoffs in this final game. The AFC South balance of power may slowly be swinging, but Peyton Manning still suits up for professional football – and that’s still bad news for opponents.

The 2011/12 NFL futures betting season is here in full force!
