Date: <\/strong>Saturday, May 28, 2011 Los Angeles Angels (26-26 through May 26)<\/strong> What a weird season for Jered Weaver. Remember the blistering, 6-0 start? He followed it up with four straight losses and a no-decision. Law of Averages, we bow to your power.<\/p>\n Of course, the slump isn\u2019t all Weaver\u2019s fault. He hasn\u2019t exactly been shellacked; he still hasn\u2019t allowed more than four runs in a game this season. But the offense around him hasn\u2019t been that great.<\/p>\n The Angels are 23rd<\/sup> in the majors in runs scored. It doesn\u2019t help that Vernon Wells, Howie Kendrick and Kendrys Morales are on the DL. At least rookie Mark Trumbo has been a nice story; he leads the team in homers with eight.<\/p>\n Minnesota Twins (16-32 through May 26)<\/strong> The Houston Astros started the season 15-30 the last time they went to the World Series but I don\u2019t think a similar turnaround is in the cards for the hapless Minnesota Twins this season. They\u2019re dead last in baseball in both runs scored and runs allowed. Impressive stuff. They\u2019re also still without their best player , Joe Mauer (bilateral leg weakness), and Justin Morneau is clearly playing through some kind of neck injury.<\/p>\n Francisco Liriano, who starts Saturday, has shown some hints of a turnaround. In his last four outings, he\u2019s allowed two earned runs or fewer three times and tossed a no-hitter. But his command is still quite poor. He\u2019s walked four-plus batters in more than half his starts.<\/p>\n MLB Trends:<\/strong><\/p>\n LAA are 1-7 in their last 8 games following a win. The pick:<\/strong><\/p>\n At this beginning of the season this would\u2019ve looked like a marquee game to watch on Fox. Now I think it shapes up to be a dud. Offense will be hard to come by, but I think the Angels will slip by since Liriano will help put them on base by missing the plate often.<\/p>\n
