Date: <\/strong>May 27, 2011 New York Yankees (27-21)<\/strong> The Toronto Blue Jays were a streaking baseball team when they ran into the Yankees earlier this week \u2013 and the Bronx Bombers quickly put that hot streak to bed, winning two of three games thanks to some late heroics. On Friday, they\u2019ll try to cool off another hot team when they visit Seattle.<\/p>\n A.J. Burnett hasn\u2019t been as bad as last year; this season, he\u2019s back to his talented yet erratic self, mixing in good efforts with bad ones, walking plenty of hitters and allowing his share of homers. He hasn\u2019t been as good on the road, going winless in three starts and allowing four homers in 18 innings.<\/p>\n Seattle Mariners (24-25)<\/strong> As much as Zach Britton and Alexi Ogando have made headlines as superb rookie pitchers in the American League this season, Michael Pineda has arguably been better than both of them. The rookie has pitched like a veteran; he has 61 strikeouts in 58.1 innings but has also walked just 14 batters and allowed just three homers. Those stat rates reflect a veteran ace. That said, it\u2019s worth noting that Pineda has faced some weak lineups, including the Jays, Royals, Athletics, Orioles, Twins and Padres. Texas is the team that most closely resembles the Yankees in terms of its power prowess \u2013 and it\u2019s the only team to remotely touch up Pineda. He\u2019s 0-2 with a 4.85 ERA over two starts against them this season.<\/p>\n MLB Trends:<\/strong><\/p>\n NYY are 3-13 in Burnetts last 16 road starts. The pick:<\/strong><\/p>\n Pineda is the real deal; he had the pedigree of a top prospect all along, so we shouldn\u2019t be surprised to see him flourishing. However, he has to hit a wall at some point. Texas hinted that a potent offensive club can solve Pineda. The Yankee hitters will wait for their pitch against him. Even though the Mariners have won seven of eight, they\u2019ve done it more with their arms than their bats. <\/p>\n Burnett can handle a lineup batting .232 on the season.<\/p>\n
