Keep an eye out for accurate ball strikers when wagering on the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial this week. Zach Johnson, not a long hitter by any means, won the tourney last year largely because he led the field in greens in regulation and was 10th<\/sup> in fairways hit.<\/p>\n

The oddsmakers are all over Day, probably because he\u2019s a member at Colonial Country Club. But I have news for you, sportsbooks: Day hasn\u2019t won a PGA event here. Sure, he has five top-10s this season and he was fourth at Colonial in 2009, but his odds seem a bit inflated to me.<\/p>\n

Zach Johnson<\/strong>
\nCrowne Plaza Invitational odds: +1850<\/p>\n

Johnson hasn\u2019t had a banner 2010 but he\u2019s the defending champ and his 12th<\/sup>-place finish at THE PLAYERS suggests he may be heating up. He\u2019s sixth on Tour in fairways hit. He\u2019s a good bet to at least contend.<\/p>\n

THE CONTENDERS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ben Crane<\/strong>
\nCrowne Plaza Invitational odds: +2050<\/p>\n

Crane is an underwhelming but respectable pick because of his skill set. He\u2019s eighth on Tour in driving accuracy and 19th<\/sup> in greens in regulation. At the same time, Crane hasn\u2019t parlayed those skills into results this season; he has just one top-10.<\/p>\n

Matt Kuchar<\/strong>
\nCrowne Plaza Invitational odds: +2050<\/p>\n

Kuchar\u2019s hot streak dating back to last season appears to be over; his 54th<\/sup>-place finish at THE PLAYERS is his worst of the year. But his peripherals suggest he could make a comeback this week; he\u2019s 13th<\/sup> in greens hit and seventh in the all-around ranking. We shouldn\u2019t sleep on him.<\/p>\n

Hunter Mahan<\/strong>
\nCrowne Plaza Invitational odds:+2050<\/p>\n

Mahan is one of the more perplexing candidates this week. He has six top-10s this year and he\u2019s 10th<\/sup> on Tour in greens but he\u2019s also 0 for 7 in top-25 finishes at Colonial for his career. Do you trust the current success or the history more?<\/p>\n

Kevin Na<\/strong>
\nCrowne Plaza Invitational odds: +2050<\/p>\n

Na always seems to be in the hunt at Colonial, posting four top-25s in his last five tries there, and his short game is outstanding. But he has two vicious red flags: he\u2019s 131st<\/sup> in driving accuracy and 167th<\/sup> in GIR. That\u2019s enough for me to cross him off my list. <\/p>\n

SOLID PICK<\/strong><\/p>\n

David Toms<\/strong>
\nCrowne Plaza Invitational odds: +3050<\/p>\n

Toms is gaining plenty of momentum as a pick this week. He put himself back on the radar when he lost in a playoff at THE PLAYERS last week. He\u2019s also second on Tour in both fairways and greens. The odds of two straight outstanding tournaments aren\u2019t great for this fallen star but he has cashed in at Colonial seven straight times. He has a lot going for him. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

THE SLEEPER<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jason Dufner<\/strong>
\nCrowne Plaza Invitational odds: +4550<\/p>\n

Dufner carries plenty of momentum as the sleeper pick this week, riding two straight top-10 finishes. He also led the field in greens in regulation at TPC Sawgrass last week. He\u2019s more than a stab in the dark.<\/p>\n

THE PICK<\/strong><\/p>\n

There isn\u2019t one particular pick absolutely screaming at me this week \u2013 so I\u2019ll try something a bit different and make a speculative wager. Matt Kuchar hasn\u2019t been great of late but his game works well for Colonial. Maybe this is the tournament to get him going. Let\u2019s give him a shot.<\/p>\n
