Los Angeles Angels (21-16 through May 10)<\/strong>
\nJered Weaver (6-2, 1.87)<\/p>\n

6-2 with a 1.87 ERA would qualify as a Cy Young favorite\u2019s numbers, wouldn\u2019t they? You\u2019d think so. But the truth is that Jered Weaver is \u201cslumping.\u201d After allowing five earned runs over his first six starts combined, winning all six of those outings, Weaver has allowed seven runs over his last two starts, losing both.<\/p>\n

That was to be expected. In no sport does the law of averages ring truer than in baseball. Weaver just couldn\u2019t sustain his ridiculous start, just as Ubaldo Jimenez couldn\u2019t last season. With his ERA likely to rise another run before the season is up, Weaver will have to hope his lineup gives him more run support. But it could be hard to come by with Vernon Wells on the DL and Kendrys Morales out for the season with another leg surgery.<\/p>\n

Texas Rangers (19-18 through May 10)<\/strong>
\nAlexi Ogando (3-0, 2.17)<\/p>\n

Remember when the Rangers started 9-1? They\u2019re 10-17 since then. It\u2019s not a huge surprise considering Josh Hamilton is out with a broken arm and Nelson Cruz succumbed to his annual hamstring strain. The Rangers\u2019 hot-starting pitchers have also come back to Earth. \"Bet<\/a><\/p>\n

Except for Alexi Ogando. Who saw him coming? He was an afterthought, a last-minute rotation replacement to start the season after the Rangers decided to keep Neftali Feliz in the bullpen. All he\u2019s done is go undefeated in six starts and allow two earned runs or fewer in five of them. He also has a miniscule 0.88 WHIP. <\/p>\n

MLB Trends:<\/strong><\/p>\n

LAA are 11-4 in their last 15 road games.

The pick:<\/strong><\/p>\n

For a while it felt like we couldn\u2019t go wrong betting on Weaver. But I advise you now to forget what you\u2019ve learned. Weaver can be had when he pitches in Texas. He\u2019s won just twice in 11 tries there over his career and has allowed nine homers to go with a 3.93 ERA over 71 innings. Even without Hamilton and Cruz, Texas has pop with Michael Young, Ian Kinsler, Adrian Beltre and emerging youngster Mitch Moreland.<\/p>\n

Also, Ogando has only ever faced L.A. as a reliever. He hasn\u2019t allowed a run over eight career appearances against them. He has their number and their lineup is depleted. I like Texas Friday night \u2013 and you may even get value on the pick since Weaver could make the Angels a road favorite.<\/p>\n
