Milwaukee Brewers (13-18 through May 5)<\/strong>
\nYovani Gallardo (2-2, 6.10)<\/p>\n

Few teams have us scratching our heads like the Milwaukee Brewers this season. Oddsmakers had them with the fourth-best chances to win the World Series at the start of the season but, here they are, five games under .500 and mired in a six-game losing streak through Thursday night\u2019s action.<\/p>\n

During the six-game skid, Milwaukee has scored more than two runs in a game just once. Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder have posted massive power numbers but, unlike last season, the rest of their lineup hasn\u2019t supported them.<\/p>\n

The offensive slump comes at a bad time because the top of Milwaukee\u2019s rotation hasn\u2019t figured itself out yet. Zack Greinke returned from the DL this week and Yovani Gallardo, who will start at St. Louis Saturday, has been a train wreck. He\u2019s allowed four-plus runs in five straight starts and hasn\u2019t pitched more than six innings in an outing over that period.<\/p>\n

St. Louis Cardinals (18-14 through May 5)<\/strong>
\nKyle Lohse (4-1, 2.44)<\/p>\n

If the Brewers are the NL\u2019s biggest disappointment, are the Cards the Senior Circuit\u2019s most pleasant surprise? Many bettors and pundits wrote them off after they lost Adam Wainwright to Tommy John Surgery. But pitching coach Dave Duncan has gotten the most out of his motley crew of starters. Kyle Lohse takes a 2.44 ERA into his Saturday matchup with Milwaukee. \"Bet<\/a><\/p>\n

It\u2019ll be interesting to see if Lohse can keep his hot play going against a team that has traditionally owned him. In 82.1 innings over 16 appearances against the Brew Crew, Lohse is 3-6 with a 5.36 ERA and 11 homers allowed in 82.1 innings.<\/p>\n

The pick:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Brewers will snap out of their funk eventually but I don\u2019t think Saturday is the day. Their offense is slumping and Lohse\u2019s poor track record against them is deceiving. He\u2019s allowed 11 homers to Milwaukee, yeah, but Braun is the only current Brewer starter to hit one of those homers.<\/p>\n

Also, while Gallardo will sort himself out eventually, he\u2019s facing a Cardinals lineup that leads the majors in runs, average and OPS. Lance Berkman and Matt Holliday are absolutely demolishing the opposition. And then there\u2019s that Pujols guy. Pick St. Louis.<\/p>\n
