Colorado Rockies (18-10 through May 4)<\/strong>
\nUbaldo Jimenez (0-2, 7.20)<\/p>\n

What a weird season for the Colorado Rockies. They\u2019re 18-10, first place in the National League West through Wednesday, yet two of their vital starts have been terrible this season. Carlos Gonzalez isn\u2019t hitting and Ubaldo Jimenez has been the biggest conundrum of all on the mound.<\/p>\n

After seriously contending for the Cy Young Award last season and being literally unhittable at times, Jimenez looks like a rookie right now. The velocity is down and the walk rate is through the roof \u2013 even for his standards.<\/p>\n

But Jimenez feels he\u2019s about to turn the corner. He\u2019s studied lots of video of himself leading up to his start on Friday night and believes he\u2019s fixed a mechanical flaw in his delivery. Time will tell if he\u2019s right.<\/p>\n

San Francisco Giants (15-15 through May 4)<\/strong>
\nMatt Cain (2-2, 3.28)<\/p>\n

Matt Cain has more or less been his usual stellar self for the San Francisco Giants this season; five of his six outings have been quality starts. He\u2019s allowed more than two runs in a start just once. Against the Rockies, he\u2019s 11-7 with a 3.22 ERA over 23 starts \u2013 very typical Cain numbers. \"Bet<\/a><\/p>\n

But will Cain get enough run support on Friday night? The Giants are batting just .236 as a team this season and are 27th<\/sup> in baseball with 3.55 runs per game. It\u2019s gotten bad enough that the Giants have been rumored to recall Brandon Belt from Triple-A or even trade for Jose Reyes.<\/p>\n

I have a good feeling about Friday night as a return to form for Jimenez. He sounded very confident talking about his preparation this week, even suggesting that \u201cI think I threw a perfect game\u201d in his bullpen session. The Giants aren\u2019t an intimidating lineup to face for a pitcher, so I think Ubaldo will outduel Cain in a low-scoring affair.<\/p>\n
