LAST WEEK<\/strong>: Missed it by that much. Luke Donald was the pick to win and he got all the way to the playoff but he just couldn\u2019t close the door when the chips were down. It\u2019s the second time this season that Cappers Picks\u2019 choice has lost in a playoff. Sooner or later, we have to win one.<\/p>\n

The Zurich Classic of New Orleans at TPC Louisiana this week will keep players honest. Proximity to hole and putting are rated as very difficult at this track, meaning players who can stick it close on their approaches and sink the clutch putts are the ones to target.<\/p>\n

THE ELITE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Luke Donald<\/strong>
\nZurich Classic odds: +815<\/p>\n

There has been no better golfer week-to-week than Donald, who leads the Tour in putting and adjusted scoring average, but I won\u2019t pick him again this week. Despite his amazing consistency \u2013 five straight top 10s \u2013 I wouldn\u2019t be surprised if last week\u2019s heartbreak frustrates him and he grips the club a bit too tightly this week. Maybe he\u2019s a good pick for the PLAYERS in a few weeks.<\/p>\n

Nick Watney<\/strong>
\nZurich Classic odds: +1015<\/p>\n

The 2007 Zurich Classic champ Watney has been almost as good as Donald this season, posting five top-10s in seven tries. He\u2019s good at hitting the stick, ranking 28th<\/sup> in greens hit, and he leads the Tour in a very handy stat: putting from 15 to 25 feet. Since TPC Louisiana\u2019s greens are tough to hit, golfers will face many putts from that distance this week.<\/p>\n

THE CONTENDERS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Steve Stricker<\/strong>
\nZurich Classic odds: +1615<\/p>\n

Stricker isn\u2019t sizzling like he did in 2009 but he\u2019s a very safe, solid pick this week as a smooth ball striker with nice touch around the greens. Having made 30 straight cuts, Stricker is as good a bet as anyone to at least give you a chance to win on your bet every week.<\/p>\n

Justin Rose<\/strong>
\nZurich Classic odds: +1850<\/p>\n

Rose is someone to consider because of his makeup; leads the Tour in GIR. He\u2019s also been one of the Tour\u2019s most consistent players this season, going 9 for 9 on cuts made. However, he hasn\u2019t played since the Masters, so he could feel some mild rust.<\/p>\n

Bubba Watson<\/strong>
\nZurich Classic odds: +2050<\/p>\n

Bubba won\u2019t be everyone\u2019s cup of tea this week, as the big smashers aren\u2019t typically the guys rewarded at TPC Louisiana, but he\u2019s more than just a 300-yard drive. He\u2019s second on Tour in greens hit and he finished fifth at this tourney in 2007. If only he could shake his emerging habit of brutal finishes (78 on Sunday in each of his last two events).<\/p>\n

SOLID PICKS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Brandt Snedeker<\/strong>
\nZurich Classic odds: +2550<\/p>\n

One of the smoothest putters on Tour did what he does best to win at Harbour Town last week. He hasn\u2019t made the cut at TPC Louisiana before but that doesn\u2019t always matter when a golfer is hot.<\/p>\n

Charley Hoffman<\/strong>
\nZurich Classic odds: +2850<\/p>\n

Hoffman is an underwhelming but solid pick \u2013 and we\u2019ve seen a ton of golfers in that tier win tournaments this season. H was second in his previous start at the Valero Texas Open and his GIR, putting and driving peripherals are above-average. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

THE SLEEPER<\/strong><\/p>\n

Spencer Levin<\/strong>
\nZurich Classic odds: +5250<\/p>\n

Raise your hand if you knew that Spencer Levin (a) has six top-15 finishes this season and (b) leads the Tour in birdies. He\u2019s arguably playing much better than his +5250 odds suggest, so he looks like the best value you\u2019ll get on a bet this week.<\/p>\n

THE PICK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Donald is playing well enough to warrant another pick except for what I expect could be some lingering frustration and jitters this week. So why not take the next best thing? Nick Watney matches up well for the course, has a win here before and won\u2019t be rattled after a disappointing result the way Donald might be after last week.<\/p>\n
