The Oakland Athletics are making their case for baseball\u2019s most predictable team. Everyone expected excellent pitching, subpar hitting and something around .500 ball. Well, here they are through 22 games, leading the majors in ERA at 2.46 while ranking 29th<\/sup> in homers, 26th<\/sup> in runs scored and 22 in batting average. And their record sits at exactly .500.<\/p>\n

Former White Sox prospect Brandon McCarthy gets the ball for the A\u2019s on Tuesday. He\u2019s looking for just his second win in his fifth try this season despite the 2.10 ERA. The key for McCarthy early on has been impeccable control. He has just three walks over 30 innings, doing his best Cliff Lee impression.<\/p>\n

Believe it or not, Coco Crisp\u2019s .259 leads <\/em>the team. He\u2019s started to heat up of late, so maybe he\u2019ll fuel Oakland\u2019s offense against the Angels. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Los Angeles Angels (12-10)<\/strong>
\n(Tyler Chatwood 1-1, 3.50)<\/p>\n

Jered Weaver and Dan Haren deserve full marks for their dominant efforts atop the Angels\u2019 rotation this season \u2013 but I\u2019m not giving Tyler Chatwood a gold star just yet. The rookie\u2019s numbers look solid on paper but his luck is due to turn.<\/p>\n

Chatwood has walked 11 batters in just 18 innings. If he keeps putting batters on base at that rate, he has to be punished eventually. He\u2019ll need some offensive help and Howie Kendrick may be the provider. The traditionally light-hitting second baseman already has six homers this season.<\/p>\n
