It\u2019s time for our weekly Playoff hoops picks for NBA gambling action. <\/p>\n

The cumulative effect of the NBA playoffs takes a toll, they say, on aging teams. But it\u2019s the Knicks who are banged up and surrounded by questions as they ready for Game 3 tonight in New York, a battle which will determine whether or not this Eastern Conference quarterfinal will be over quickly or may linger until at least the middle of next week.<\/p>\n

Reports out of New York say that Amare Stoudemire\u2019s availability will be a game-time decision when he stretches out his ailing back, and that even a bruised Stoudemire is more likely to play than point guard Chauncey Billups, last seen in the final minute of Game 1 wrenching his left knee. <\/p>\n

Sans Stoudemire and Billups, Carmelo Anthony was able to keep the Knicks within one possession of winning Game 2 in Boston, but with a few days to repair the defense, the Celtics are not going to let Melo go off for 42 more at home. <\/p>\n

The Knicks now have to win four of the next five to put down the gasping Celtics, and that\u2019s unlikely even if Anthony continues to channel his inner Bernard King. \"Sports<\/p>\n

Billups\u2019 problem is this \u2013 the ankle won\u2019t be anywhere near 100 percent even if he plays, and chasing Rajon Rondo endline to endline for 30-plus minutes is a chore even on healthy wheels. NY needs to adjust its defense after being smoked by Rondo\u2019s drives which led to 30 and 7 on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The pick<\/strong>: Rest is the Celtics\u2019 friend in the playoffs, and the two days off since Game 2 and the short commute to NY plays to their advantage. <\/p>\n

If the Knicks bring an extra defender to stop Rondo in the lane, it could open things up for Ray Allen to go off like he did when he knocked down eight 3s against the Lakers in Game 2 of The Finals last year. Boston is one of the better road teams in the league and won\u2019t be too fazed by the MSG crowd at its first playoff game in about 10 years. <\/p>\n

Tough call without knowking about Billups\/Stoudemire, but liking Boston here with another play on the Over.<\/p>\n
