The Portland Trail Blazers were a trendy upset pick this year, but they\u2019ve fallen behind 2-0 in their first-round series with the Dallas Mavericks. The Blazers return home on Thursday and will get a shot to get back into the series.<\/p>\n

Dallas beat the Blazers 101-89 on Tuesday. The Mavericks have been carried by a surprising surge from Jason Kidd. The former All-Star has been a shell of his former self over the past few seasons, but Kidd has suddenly turned on the jets when it matters most. After averaging just 7.9 points during the regular season, Kidd has put up 24 and 18 points in his two playoff games against Dallas. A recently modified shooting technique seems to be paying off, especially from three-point land; Kidd has made 13 of his past 22 attempts from beyond the arc.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s truly terrifying for opposing teams. Dallas was good enough with Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry providing the only consistent scoring; throw Kidd into the mix (and Peja Stojakovic, who hit five three-pointers in Game 2), and suddenly Dallas is a new team. \"Online<\/p>\n

Portland hasn\u2019t been able to muster quite enough offense in the series, scoring just 81 and 89 points in the past two games. There\u2019s nobody in particular to single out\u2014nobody has played especially bad\u2014the club just needs everyone to take their game up one more notch. LaMarcus Aldridge has been the best of the bunch; he racked up 24 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in the Game 2 loss.<\/p>\n

Obviously, Aldridge can\u2019t do it alone, however. Fans were hoping Brandon Roy would suddenly turn his game around in the postseason, but it hasn\u2019t happened. Roy is just 1-for-8 in the series, and he went scoreless in eight minutes of action on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Still, Portland should be fired up to get back in front of its home crowd. The deep Blazers rotation was supposed to wear out the one-two punch of Nowitzki and Terry, and Kidd can\u2019t keep shooting the lights out like this forever\u2014right? Expect the veteran Kidd to cool off, and Portland to get its first win and cover of the series.<\/p>\n
