Texas Rangers (9-3)<\/strong>

After a 9-1 start to the 2011 season on the heels of a 2010 World Series appearance, the Rangers couldn\u2019t have felt much better just a few days ago. But things have changed. Josh Hamilton, their star and reigning American League MVP, is out with a broken shoulder. The Rangers have also lost two consecutive games.<\/p>\n

With Hamilton out, the Rangers may have to rely on their arms a bit more than normal. Based on the early-season returns, that may not be a bad thing. Texas leads the majors in ERA (2.55) and WHIP (1.10). Matt Harrison, who will face the New York Yankees Friday, has been a big part of Texas\u2019 stellar pitching.<\/p>\n

Harrison has been dynamite early, flashing a very live arm and allowing just seven hits over 14 innings in his during his 2-0 run against the potent Boston and Baltimore lineups. Harrison has a hideous 7.53 lifetime ERA against the Bronx Bombers but it\u2019s possible that the current version of Harrison is a new pitcher altogether. He\u2019s just 25 years old. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

New York Yankees (6-4 through April 13)<\/strong>
\nIvan Nova (1-0, 6.10)<\/p>\n

The New York Yankees\u2019 6-4 start is nothing special but, with the AL East showing so much parity, it\u2019s better than it looks. They\u2019re getting some nice early offensive contributions from Alex Rodriguez, whose four homers suggest he\u2019s far from washed up, and Russell Martin, who has three jacks already and looks rejuvenated with his new team.<\/p>\n

The Yankee bats may need to come out in full force with wildcard Ivan Nova taking the hill. He has just nine career big-league starts to his name and has allowed seven runs in just 10.1 innings over his first two 2011 starts.<\/p>\n

Travelling to Yankee Stadium is a tall order for any pitcher but Harrison has already faced two intimidating lineups and hasn\u2019t looked uncomfortable. Also, Nova has given bettors no reason to trust him yet. Even without Hamilton, the Rangers lineup is fearsome. Nelson Cruz is tearing the cover off the ball; Ian Kinsler has shown major pop early this season too. I like Texas to become the AL\u2019s first 10-win team on Friday.<\/p>\n
