If the playoffs started today the Thunder and the Nuggets would square off in the first round. Oklahoma City leads the Nuggets by three games in the Western Conference standings, but these teams play each other twice this week, so there is a chance for the Nuggets to gain some significant ground. <\/p>\n

These are two of the hottest teams in the NBA over the last few weeks, and if this playoff matchup does come to fruition, it may well be the best first-round matchup in either league. <\/p>\n

Expect this regular season game to have a playoff feel to it.<\/p>\n

The Thunder were red hot, but they did lose to both Portland and the Clippers this past weekend. Before those losses the Thunder had won 11 of their last 12 games. <\/p>\n

Kendrick Perkins is already making a difference on the defensive end for Oklahoma City. Perkins is a great low-post defender, and he averages eight rebounds per game. Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook give the Thunder one of the best scoring tandems in the NBA. The Thunder lead the NBA in free-throw shooting percentage as a team, which helps them win a lot of close games. <\/p>\n

If Oklahoma City can continue to improve on the defensive end, they will be a very tough out in the playoffs.<\/p>\n

The Denver Nuggets have been on fire since they traded away Carmelo Anthony. \"Sports <\/p>\n

This team is 15-4 SU and 16-2-1 ATS since the deal took place. All four of their losses during that period have been on the road. What has been the spark behind the Nuggets improved play? On the offensive end this is a team that moves the basketball much better than they previously did. The single biggest difference so far has been the improvement on the defensive end. The Nuggets are allowing just 94.8 points per game since the deal. <\/p>\n

Sunday\u2019s win over the Lakers at Staples Center was probably the biggest yet for this Denver Nuggets team. Denver is a team that is extremely confident right now, and I don\u2019t think anyone wants to face this team in the playoffs.<\/p>\n

At this point, I can\u2019t bet against the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets are only laying 3.5 points here, and they are playing terrific basketball. Denver is a tough place to play, and the Thunder are in their fourth straight road contest. I like the Nuggets to cover. <\/p>\n

Prediction: Denver 105 Oklahoma City 99<\/strong><\/p>\n
