After having their four-game winning streak snapped in the regular season finale against the top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, the Wisconsin Badgers couldn\u2019t regain their momentum in time for their matchup with the Penn State Nittany Lions in the opening round of the Big Ten title tournament. The Badgers hope to reverse that trend in the opening round of the NCAA national title tournament, and will get their shot as the fourth seed in the Southeast region against the 13th-seeded Belmont Bruins.<\/p>\n

Wisconsin scored just 33 points in their loss to Penn State, as both teams combined for just 69 points in the lowest scoring game in the history of the Big Ten title tournament. That total is 16 less than the previous low, and although they have put on better offensive performances this season, the Badgers have a history of struggling to score in postseason games. Wisconsin has been involved in four of the six lowest scoring games in Big Ten tournament history, but this performance had to be the worst. \"The<\/a><\/p>\n

Only three of the Badgers\u2019 five starters even reached the score sheet, while the team combined to go just 2-of-21 from beyond the arc. That certainly won\u2019t get things done once the Madness begins, although there may still be time to turn things around. Much of that will depend on the play of Jon Leuer, who led the Badgers in scoring with an average of 18.6 points per game. Leuer scored just 10 in the loss to Penn State, and will need to rise to the occasion to open the floor for his teammates.<\/p>\n

The Badgers open against a Belmont team that dominated the Atlantic Sun conference this season, with their only loss coming in the finale of a three-game road trip at midseason. <\/p>\n

The Bruins crushed the North Florida Ospreys 87-46 in the ASC championship game, and that momentum and confidence will carry over to the Madness. Belmont has won 12 straight games and despite playing against inferior competition in their own conference, the leap is not big enough to justify downplaying their potential. <\/p>\n

The Bruins have become a popular upset pick, and four points is more than enough to give them a shot.<\/p>\n
